Gluten and Thyroid 101??

Hello everyone and I'm sorry to have started another post about the thyroid and gluten but I have thyroid brain fog and simply can't read through all the other posts. I had a thyroidectomy in 2009 and since 2010 have had many different health problems, the worst of which is depersoanilzation and brain fog. Can someone please explain to me why gluten is partituclarly bad for thyroid patients and if it is really necessary to cut it out.

Thank you!

Carolyn982, This link explains why thyroid patients with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) may benefit from gluten-free diet.

chriskresser.com/the-gluten...

If you were positive for Hashimoto's before you had the thyroidectomy Hashimoto's may have died out once the target thyroid was removed. If you also had RAI all thyroid cells should have been destroyed which makes it unlikely you have any thyroid activity or antibodies.

If you post your recent thyroid results with ranges (figures in brackets after results) we'll advise whether you are optimally medicated. If you haven't had FT3 tested it is worth ordering a private thyroid test from Blue Horizon or Genova via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

I'm also thyroidless post thyCa and was very unwell on Levothyroxine with FT3 below range. Adding T3 was very beneficial and there was improvement in brain fog and congnition within a week, although physical symptoms took several months to resolve.

thank you for your reply. i did not have hashimotos before my thyroid was removed. i just assumed that those without thyroids should go gluten free
