Confusing symptoms after partial thyroidectomy.

I just had a partial thyroidectomy done on 12/11/2015. I didn't know what to expect from the surgery and it's still early. I have severe narcolepsy and take stimulants everyday to stay awake. They are a must have. However, the day after my surgery I stayed awake with energy for most of the day without taking any narcolepsy medicine. I was so excited. I also slept pretty good the first couple of nights. Since then I have been tired here and there, but not really fatigued and have had to start back taking my narcolepsy meds, although a lower dose. Two nights in a row I got maybe two non consecutive hours of sleep each night. Can anyone help me figure out what I should be feeling? Oh and I have noticed a tad bit of anxiety. I know this is a lot and still it's not everything that could be discussed about this journey.

Welcome to the forum Melmoment.

It's expected that your remaining thyroid will provide the hormone you require, so you should feel pretty much the way you did before your partial thyroidectomy. However, the remaining thyroid can underperform so If you notice increasing fatigue, feeling cold in well heated rooms, unexplained weight gain, constipation and hair loss these are typical signs of underactive thyroid and you should ask your GP to do a thyroid function test.

I have always had hypo symptoms but normal labs. I have never been tested for thyoid antibodies though.

Melmoment, can you post the labs and ranges (figures in brackets after results)?

I don't have them. I must have put them up somewhere. I go in on Monday. I'll get a copy of them. I remember my surgeon looking over them when I asked him if maybe my numbers were close to given range. He said they weren't even close so my thyroid wasn't the reason for the hypo symptoms. I'm also asking for a thyroid antibody test.

So what was the reason for your surgery?

I had a very large cyst on my left thyroid lobe that was causing compressive symptoms.

excuse my ignorance but was the cyst found during a scan, FNA or could it be seen/felt on examination?

I first noticed the lump in my neck. Went to get an ultrasound then was referred to a endocrinologist who performed a FNA. It wasn't cancerous
