I suffer with very high sporadic blood pressure I am on 50mg levothyroxine I also get irregular heart beat and palpitations , I have only been like this since I have had thyroid problems ,doctor does not want to know,hi just keeps telling me to take beta blockers,I am on blood pressure tabs, but some days my blood pressure is to low,I tried a few days off my levothyroxine and everything seemed to come back to normal is this possible,I am tempted to try and come off my levothyroxine, but feel a bit scared ,I am 73 years of age so I don't really know what to do,would be grateful for some advice.

Welcome to our forum Patharris

Try not to worry too much but that's easier said than done, I know. How long have you been on 50mcg of levothyroxine? The reason being that with too low a dose you can get palps, missed beats, etc. Betablockers also interfere with the uptake and it's not in the least surprising that your doctor is unaware of this phenomenon.

We have to learn ourselves if we want to recover our health.

I also got palpitations on levothyroxine and some of us don't respond very well to it but some do fine when they are on a dose which suits them.

When do you take betablockers?

Do you have a copy of your blood test results, with the ranges?

If you've had a recent blood test ask the surgery for a copy with the ranges (ranges differ in labs and it makes it easier to comment). We are entitled to a copy of our blood tests and say you want them for your own records and you can also post if you have a query.

If you've not had one for a while say you are feeling not too good and make the earliest possible appointment and fast (you can drink water). Leave about 24 hours between levo and the blood test and take it afterwards.

Get a print-out and post on a new question. 50mcg is a starting dose and a proper dose might help with your blood pressure too.
