Can someone please help me interpret my lab work?

I had to find a new endocrinologist since the one I had been using for many years and loved retired. I was taking 37 & 1/2 mg of cytomel daily for what seems like forever and was doing great on it. I felt great and never had a problem but I knew that she was one in a million and that I was going to have a hard time finding another doctor to prescribe t3. So, since she retired I have been to numerous endocrinologists but I never get passed the initial appointment since they all refuse to even consider t3. Finally I found someone who will at least let me take a combination of t3 and t4. I'm now on 75my of the generic for synthroid and 10 mcg of cytomel (5 mcg twice a day) daily.

When I had my lab work done it read T3 total 110, T4 free 1.3 and my TSH was 0.3. The endo said that I'm taking too much medication. It sure doesn't feel that way and I'm afraid that he's going to reduce it and I'm going to be feeling horrible. can somebody whose knowledgeable about this please tel me if my blood word indicates that I'm on too much medication. Thank you so much in advance for your help.

Hello Cindy,

Welcome to our forum and sorry to hear that you are not feeling well.

How annoying to have something that was clearly working for you tampered with.

I actually medicate well on a combo of T4 & T3 but if this isn't your mix or you are not getting enough, then it isn't going to work for you. (I take 100mcg T4 & 20mcg T3).

However, also remember that symptoms can lag six weeks behind good biochemistry and it could just be that your body needs further acclimatising time to this new med combination.

A low T4 and a TSH presumably within range would NOT indicate that you are over medicated.

If you supply the ranges of your test results (numbers in brackets) members will be able to give a more informed answer regarding your thyroid hormone levels.

Also were you tested for free T3 which is useful if medicating on T3?

If you wanted to consider another endo you can email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk for a list of sympathetic endos/doctors that members have had positive experiences with.

Many people with thyroid issues are deficient in nutrients and iron that is essential for thyroid hormone absorbtion & conversion.

Ask your GP to test your levels for Vit D, Vit B12, folate and ferritin and again post results for members to comment.
