Fairyeyes, all tablets and all brands of Levothyroxine have fillers. Wockhardt has fewer fillers than Mercury Pharma and Actavis.

All makes of levothyroxine have "fillers" (more formally called excipients). The amount of levothyroxine in a tablet is so incredibly tiny you couldn't possibly handle it if they didn't.

Take a sugar cube that weights around 3 grams (half a teaspoonful or so - not heaped).

Divide each surface into ten by ten (like a chessboard or graph paper). Take one of those tiny cubes. Divide each surface of that into five by five. That is about how much T4 is in a 25 microgram tablet.

Assuming you are in the UK, there are only three makes of levothyroxine tablet and more details of them can be found on the main Thyroid UK site, here:

Some people prefer one make to another. This is indivdual and what is fine for one person may not be for another person.

I think your sugar cube calculation gives around 28 milligrams. You would have to go through the process once more (divide 10 x 10 and 3 x 3) to arrive at about 30 micrograms. i.e. one millionth of the sugar cube.

On a more serious side, when we realise how tiny the amounts of T3 and T4 in the body are it's no surprise that these hormones are easily disrupted by a number of modern toxins. It also explains why some assays, particularly those that use very small blood samples, are not accurate.

Start with that cube of 3 grams. Divide a cube into 10 x 10 x 10 - that divides by 1000 - giving 3 milligrams per cube. (I am seeing a 10 x 10 grid on all nine surfaces.)

Take that 3 milligram cube and divide by 5 x 5 x 5 (that is by 125). That gives 24 micrograms!

(Yes - I originally typed 3 which would result in 111 micrograms. My mistake - and thanks for pointing out that there was something wrong.)

Sorry, my brain was elsewhere, I was living in two dimensions! Yes, 1/50th on each dimension - a very small amount. Without the fillers we would need a microscope to find each tablet.

As far as I am aware Mercury Pharma 25mcg tablets are usually dispensed with Actavis tablets if you need 25, 75 or 125mcg dosage as Actavis don't make 25mcg tablets. I found I could not tolerate MP at all when i was on 75mcg dosage. I am now on 100mcg and insist on Actavis only at the pharmacy (Boots). Should I ever need 125mcg dose I would insist on receiving a 50mcg tablet that I could cut in half or take on alternate days.

There are others on here who also have problems with MP

Wockhardt 25 mcg are the only ones I can tolerate. did a lot of research last year with endo and help from here, and found that they have the least fillers/binders. So I take 4 of them each day. Independent pharmacy gets them -GP prescribes them specifically by brand and size
