Inflammation from gluten, dairy, and soy

Having read that inflammation is the threat to hashis sufferers and that antibodies are just indicators, does anyone know how to tell if the inflammation from gluten, dairy, or soy can be detected or is it how you feel.

As a recently diagnosed hashimotos sufferer I still hope I can get my hashi into remission and feel well.

Adam, inflammation can be detected by endoscopy but won't determine whether food caused inflammation. Tissue transglutaminase, intrinsic factor and gastric parietal cell antibodies will determine coeliac disease caused by intolerance to gluten, but not sensitivity to gluten which is why Hashi patients are advised to adopt a gluten-free diet even if they don't have coeliac disease. There are blood tests to determine intolerance to lactose and casein in dairy. Some people have sensitivity to milk but not cheese, yoghurt, butter etc. Rather than eliminate all dairy you could eliminate milk for 2 weeks and then reintroduce it to see whether it causes problems, then cheese, yoghurt etc. in turn.

Thank you clutter. I work in Middle East and they don't have tests for lactose or casein. I'm returning to uk soon. Do you know where I can I get this test privately.

Adam, no I don't, but I'm sure members will if you post a new question.

Hello Adam,

I looked through your previous posts so have addressed several issues here. ... ..

Trial and elimination .... or the medical route...endoscopies, colonoscopies, lots of invasive tests and long waiting lists ..... or I did private food intolerance test called Cyrex Array 4: Gluten-Associated Sensitivity and Cross-Reactive Foods. This is a blood test but blood needs to be centrifuged as is sent to America.

Both TPOAb & TGAb are high and the progression of Hashimotos may be slowed if you manage to reduce these levels.

Once Hashi attacks decrease as the thyroid becomes depleted, antibody levels should reduce. Also medicating on optimal levels of thyroid hormone will calm immune responses. ... low thyroid hormones & high antibody levels can interfere with T4 - T3 conversion.

Your recent thyroid hormone test showed T3 - half way through range.

T4 - just under half way through range. .. Indicating room for med increase but . .. TSH is already low so I would suggest just making these meds work better.

Managing the antibody count is vital to avoid a possible auto immune attack against further glands and causing conditions such as diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.

While it requires a genetic predisposition towards autoimmunity that we have no control over, there are numerous environmental triggers of these diseases that we can do something about. Identifying and correcting these factors stacks the odds in your favour of reducing the autoimmune inflammation..

Members have found a gluten free diet and keeping all nutrient levels & iron optimal to be beneficial in reducing antibodies... & leading a healthy life style.

I supplement KaprexA1 which contains vit D, zinc, selenium and hops (Luduxin) which reduces inflammatory processes by targeting white blood cell activity that responsible impart for inflammation, and controlling eicosanoid and cytokine activity.

KaprexA1 doesn’t have any negative effect on the gastrointestinal tract and reduces C-reactive protein. I am also supplementing theraputic doses of Curcumin (turmeric). ... both of these are available from the Nutri Centre where members of Thyroid UK can receive 20% discounts on all supplements.

Also fish oil which contains omega-3 fatty acids which are anti-inflammatory and I am supplementing therautic doses of Curcumin (turmeric).

Some people also eliminate diary as auto immunity can be triggered by casein beta A1.

Ensure your gut is healthy as thyroid issues can lead to loss of stomach acid causing malabsorption and issues such as IBS, candida and gut dysbiosis. As well as the Betaine Plus, you may wish to consider digestive enzymes, bilary support and probiotics.

Start low & slow with NAX as it can be strong. .. You can always break pills in half/quarters. I can not tolerate any glandulars... which is dire for me..! ! .. but many members found them beneficial in helping the adrenals.
