You are bound to be very disappointed but the Guidelines of the British Thyroid Association are quite clear about NDT. They also have made False Statements about it. You have a choice. You either follow the advice of the Endocrinologist or go-it-alone and get blood tests done by the GP. This is a Statement which was sent to the British Thyroid Association and the Royal College of Physicians but they never did make any comments about the evidence.
Considering that the very first NDT was used in 1892 and safely and from then on up until the 1950's/60's when the blood tests and levothyroxine was introduced.
Lorr, 4 grains is biochemically equivalent to 300mcg T4. NDT dose increases are advised in half grain increments every 2 weeks, hold for 4-6 weeks at 2-3 grains and have a FT3 blood test to check FT3 is within range before increasing further.
75mcg T4 plus 5mcg T3 is equivalent to 90mcg T4. What dose Levothyroxine were you previously taking?
NDT isn't licenced for UK use as your endo has written, and your endo won't have been trained to prescribe it or interpret the labs on it. If you feel better on NDT the endo can't force you to resume T4+T3 but is entitled to decline to see you if you don't follow her treatment plan.
If you intend to remain on NDT I recommend you have periodic FT3 tests to check FT3 remains within range.
In the UK, there was a brand of levo made by a company called Teva which lost its license in 2012. And there have been problems with consistency in levothyroxine generally.
