best oil for Hashimoto patients?

So, this question is pretty straightforward: I was recommended hemp oil by a Hertoghe doctor in Belgium. Others seem to prefer virgin olive oil. I admit to finding it rather confusing, as there are so many theories and opinions out there...so I'd really appreciate some input on this. I would not mind spending some money on really good quality oil but, then again, I'd need to know it wouldn't fuel inflammation...as far as I've been able to ascertain, canola and corn oil should be avoided for this very reason...?

But what about grape seed oil, rapeseed oil, almond oil, peanut oil, walnut oil, hazelnut oil, just to name a few...?

My understand is that oils high in Omega 3 are best & not Omega 6.

We only use Coconut, Olive, Butter & Beef Dripping for cooking. Also eat a Extra Virgin Coconut & Fish oil daily.

For salads any cold pressed oil is fine. But for cooking you are better off with olive oil or animal fats. That is because most vegetable oils will break down into harmful products when heated.

I think the rule is, if you can cold press it, it's ok - hemp oïl, olive oïl, walnut oil, hazelnut oïl, almond oil. But if it has to be heated and treated - processed - then it's not good for anyone - grapeseed oïl, corn oïl, peanut oïl, rapeseed oïl, sunflower seed oil, etc.

I would take what was prescribed by a Hertoghe Doctor. This is an excerpt re Hemp Oil.

Hemp Oil Nutrition

The oil contained in the hemp seed is 75-80% polyunsaturated fatty acids (the good fats) and only 9-11% of the less desired saturated fatty acids. Hemp seed oil is reputed to be the most unsaturated oil derived from the plant kingdom. The essential fatty acids contained in hemp seed oil are required in our diet more than any other vitamin, yet our bodies do not naturally produce them. They must be obtained from external sources in the food we eat. Essential fatty acids are involved with producing life's energy throughout the human body and without them, life is not possible. In general, North Americans have a high dietary deficiency in essential fatty acids due to our high intake of animal fats versus plant fats, caused by our high consumption of processed foods and meats versus natural organic foods.

Hemp seed oil has been dubbed "Nature's most perfectly balanced oil", due to the fact that it contains the perfectly balanced 3:1 ratio of Omega 6 (linolei/LA) to Omega 3 (alpha-linolenic/LNA) essential fatty acids, determined to be the optimum requirement for long-term healthy human nutrition. In addition, it also contains smaller amounts of 3 other polyunsaturated fatty acids in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), oleic acid and stearidonic acid. The EFA combination is unique among edible oil seeds.

There was a cookery program on TV in the week saying cold pressed olive oil for salads and rapeseed oil for cooking. Something to do with heating destroying the benefits of olive oil. Rapeseed oil has a higher "smoking point" apparently, so less chance of harmful stuff appearing as it is heated. MariLiz

I have read the same thing about not using olive oil for cooking.

there seems to be the post missing where you advice how to take black seed oil and msm (it appears on search but not here on the original thread) - I was looking for tips on how to take black seed oil, thanks :)

I read a book that went around the world comparing diets to try and find the cause of obesity. Apparently some african tribes eat tons of butter but stay slim with no heart disease yet if one of the tribe leave and starts to eat a western diet they get fat and ill.

The conclusion it came to was that obesity only became such a problem after the introduction of cheaply produced vegetable oils and these vegetable oils are in loads of food now in our western diet, especially processed foods . We were all conned into thinking they were healthier for economic reasons yet their omega 6 could well be the cause of loads of health problems and weight gain. Hemp oil if it has been around a long time, is cold pressed and burns at a high temperature might be a good alternative. I tend to use butter or lard.

Hi Anna69, it is a minefield, but I posted this on the site yesterday, it explains all about the good and bad oils.

I found that I was very very tired when I tried Hemp seeds, they do not agree with me, so obviously not for everyone, and I put on weight. I supplement with 10000iu vitamin D3, astaxanthin, and evcod liver oil, and 1 tsp black seed oil, from the Halal .Only fry with virgin cold pressed coconut oil, mega cheap from the Halals, take 1 heaped tsp of MSM(500mg) twice daily, together with 1 tsp of ascorbic acid twice daily.

Have 1 tbs goats butter or Kerrygold butter only in my coffee in the morning. Have raw organic cacao, ceylon cinnamon, sweetened with Stevia only. My coffee is raw organic green from Peru. I also supplement with 50mg zinc citrate, copper 2.5mg. I am very anemic, take ferrous fumerate, coz still at nearly 61, am a fertile female, an enigma for the meds. Also i self-medicate with T3, along with the T4 that is prescribed. Do no ever touch much fruit, only a piece of pineapple a day with quark, nothing processed all fresh, no cruciferous veggies ever.

I have so much energy now, have 7 kids, still 4 at home, go to Salsa twice a week, as well as going out, work 6 days a week in my shop, was divorced a long time ago, so no help. Do it all on my own, and enjoy cooking for everyone at night, and on Sundays. So something somewhere is working well for me, I would not stop taking anything that I am taking.
