...and as T3 fails to penetrate the cells well, it turns into reverse T3 .!!!.

Also caused by high or low cortisol, low B12, chronic inflammation and others...

How does T3 turn into rT3? It can't. RT3 happens when T4 is converted into T3, and the wrong iodine atom is removed. If the T3 is already 'made', you can't change the position of the iodine atoms to make it rT3.

Yes. Read it. It talks about the reasons for T4 converting to rT3 and how to calculate it. It doesn't say anything about normal T3 being changed into rT3. As far as I'm concerned, that is physically impossible.

....[.What specifically are the reasons I, as a thyroid patient, make too much RT3?

On top of the chronic stresses of your life, there are three common physiological reasons patients have noted, with the first two related to your adrenals (low cortisol, high cortisol), and the third related to your iron levels. Even low B12 and other chronic inflammation and other health issues can cause it....]..

So you take it that that means that T3 turns into rT3? No, low iron means that you can't convert T4 into T3.

..[...In emotional, psychological or physiological stress, the body will convert excess T4 to reverse T3 (rT3) as a means of conserving energy for healing and repair....]..

T4 into rT3, not T3 into rT3.

in reply to greygoose

...[...In fact, aside from inhibiting T4 to T3 conversion, these higher levels of cortisol also have a distorting effect on such conversion, causing the T4 to go into reverse T3 instead... which alas, then competes with normal T3 (triiodothyronine) at the receptor sites...]...

T4 into rT3! Not T3 into rT3.

Perhaps you didn't explain yourself very well. And you meant that T4 converts into rT3, but honestly, read it back, it reads as if you're saying 'T3 can't get into the cells so it turns into rT3'.

No, it can't Grey, because t3 is active, so not available to be converted into anything..... Besides, if you try to convert t3 by taking off an iodine atom, it becomes t2. So.... You are absolutely correct!
