Any comments would be helpful. This I believe would indicate an AI disorder?

And more specifically that I've got problems with my T3.

God it's been tough getting to this only 3 months of feeling like cr@p!

This was me 12 months ago!

MikeR, TPOab confirms autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) but doesn't mean you will have T4 to T3 conversion issues. Poor conversion is indicated when TSH is low, FT4 is high-normal and FT3 low-normal or below range.

It may be beneficial to adopt 100% gluten-free diet. Many members have found it reduces Hashi flares and can reduce antibodies.

Clutter thank you, I have adopted the Gluten free diet and things are better than they were! I've been on it for around 3-4 weeks, does it get better over time or do the improvements top out after a few weeks? But I find that when my blood sugar drops I feel lousy, particularly in the morning, likewise if my hydration slips below 0.5lts in a two hour period. I also believe the removal of mercury fillings, fluoride and using 'chemical free toiletries also helps too. To the extent that I used olive oil as a moisturizer today and as a sunscreen! I'm going to look up how to make my own as I suspect it's pretty easy if you look hard enough. WRT the Gluten free diet it has certainly eased my anxiety (not entirely) and allowed me to have an improved existence. My only concern being that I have for the past 5 weeks begun to experience frothy urine... which could imply that the autoimmune disorder is hitting my kidneys.

Hello Mike,

Welcome to our forum and thank you for previously posting the Natural Thyroid Solutions Sheet.

Your TPO antibody count is high and indicates Hashimotos Auto Immune Disease. This is a progressive disease that will attack your thyroid and give you both hyper and hypo symptoms.

The progression can be slowed if you manage to reduce the antibody level and lead a healthy life style whilst not putting undue strain on your body.

While it requires a genetic predisposition towards autoimmunity that we have no control over, there are numerous environmental triggers of these diseases that we can do something about. Identifying and correcting these factors stacks the odds in your favour of reducing the autoimmune inflammation, pain, organ dysfunction, even reversing the condition altogether.

There are stories are people reversing Hashimotos if you google it but generally people don't realise they have this condition until the thyroid gland is well under attack. Eventually the thyroid gland will decrease secreting hormone and replacement will be prescribed. (Levothyroxine).

Managing the antibody count is vital to aviod a possible auto immune attack against further glands (diabetes), joints (rheumatoid arthritis), organs (autoimmune hepatitis), etc.

If you post your thyroid hormone test results complete with ranges (numbers in brackets) members will comment. Also any vitamin//iron tests you have had.

I supplement KaprexA1 which contains vit D, zinc, selenium and hops (Luduxin) which reduces inflammatory processes by targeting white blood cell activity that responsible impart for inflammation, and controlling eicosanoid and cytokine activity.

KaprexA1 doesn’t have any negative effect on the gastrointestinal tract and reduces C-reactive protein. Also fish oil which contains omega-3 fatty acids which are anti-inflammatory. Some people also eliminate diary as auto immunity can be triggered by casein beta A1.

I consider eliminating gluten (gliadin protein) and related proteins to be the most important as will help eliminate gut issues.

Ensure you are nutrient sufficient as people with thyroid issues are often deficient in Vit D, Vit B12, folate and ferritin.

Ensure your gut is healthy as thyroid issues can lead to loss of stomach acid causing malabsorption and issues such as IBS, candida and gut dysbiosis.

What did you mean by A1 disorder? Were you referring to the Casein allergy or apolipoprotein A1 which is a bit beyond me?

Great picture btw.

Re reply to Clutter....

If you are a long distance runner your adrenals will have taken a battering. Adrenals secret cortisol which is your stress hormone....physical and mental.

Cortisol helps to balance blood sugar (gluconeogenesis) and so if low you will have spikes and dips and feel quite shaky and light headed when hungry. This is because adrenaline is compensating.

You are thirsty due to your high antibody level. I have had frothy urine in the past too, a high liver enzyme count and high creatinine but all this has improved.

I still have a really horrid taste in my mouth so drink and drink (water) all the time and this appears to have flushed out frothy urine as all is ok now.

I am just about to have all my amalgam removed …a lengthy process as I have so many..!!

As your antibody levels decrease you will feel better but you need to nurture your body to improve your poor compromised immune system. It is good to make life as natural as possible so going fluoride and chemical free will help loads. I got to the point where even perfume made me feel ill but am much better now.

Fantastic reply and very useful, thank you very much. AI (Autoimmune) sorry.

I have taken to getting out in the sunshine as my Vit D is low, Selenium I'm getting from Brazil nuts 8 per day, Zinc from bananas and flax seeds, B12 meat, eggs. I've quit milk apart from Greek yogurt on my frozen berries and honey in the morning. Folate and ferritin I will have to research natural sources for both! When you say not to stress the body does that mean I won't be able to continue running over my beloved fells or am I now destined to amble across them?! Thanks again!

Sounds like a great diet. BUT remember that if you're hypo, you may very well have low stomach acid, which will mean you are unable to absorb all these nutrients. Therefore, you should still keep an eye on serum levels to avoid deficiencies. :)

Thank you greygoose. A colonoscopy and Endoscopy showed candida in my oesophagus and gastritis in my intestines. I was steadfastly told by the folk in hospital that my Thyroid was normal and not related. I disagreed. My symptoms where swinging from hyper to hypo and convienently it was deemed that my anxiety, phobias, low mood and panic attacks where all in my head! Had I not challenged my doctor to keep digging and conduct the immune function tests I'd still be none the wiser. The fact is that we are spun the myth that doctor knows best. Consultants do tend to be judge, jury and executioner. Working in the medical field myself I have seen enough to realise the are fallible and should be challenged.

Welcome to my world! lol

I hope they are treating the candida.

I don't think we've actually seen your lab results, have we? Apart for the TPOab. Your doctor might think they're 'normal', but tell him that's a program on a washing machine, not a diagnosis! If they aren't optimal, then they're not good. Whatever he thinks!

Thank you very much, all duly noted. My wet weekend will be taken up having a damn good sort out. I have found a few websites that show how to make a natural mousuriser (castor oil and olive oil), a shaving foam derivative and you can buy some natural soaps lavender and honey made from bees wax. I have bought a water fiter, although I have been researching reverse osmosis fluoride filters which I think will also help. Once again thank you.

Mike,

Yes I would advise suspending your beloved fell running or reducing to an pleasant amble....just for a while. With a high TPOAb level your immune system is compromised and requires time off to recover. The more you push yourself before you are ready....the further you will fall. You will know when you are ready because you will feel well.

We have a Triflow water filter tap fitted to our kitchen sink which I consider perfectly adequate. Reverse osmosis water used to be all the rage but recent studies have shown some unwanted side effects of drinking demineralised water.

T- helper (Th) cells are a critical part of the immune system. They are a type of white blood cell called lymphocyte that recognize foreign particles and pathogens and initiate an immune response.

Th Cells produce cytokines Th-1 and Th-2, which are immune messenger proteins that are responsible for carrying out the biological effects of the immune system. When we suffer an immune response (Hashimoto attack), one of these cytokines becomes dominant.

If you are healing your body naturally you may be interested in the following link that explains what stimulating and modulating supplements, foods and herbs can used on these cytokines to restore balance.

Very useful thread and comments. I've been dying to get back into the gym and I'm clearly not ready. I'll just have to hold out till I feel a lot better.

Indeed Thor. A habit honed over 30 years doesn't fade away overnight or lose its luster! My addiction is running and I've only been into Hashi for around 3 months so it's very early days for me. That said I'm walking every day and have managed a very light 2 mile jog ~ 17 minutes.. felt a tad rubbish the next day so I probably over did it! Which I have a penchant for! Although this blog, Thyroid UK, and countless others allows people to share stuff which kind of lightens the load for us all. Hallelujah for that.
