Leahcim, I'm fine with sugar. I don't care Coke and fizzy drinks though.

Leahcim, I don't like coffee either :-D You can eat and drink what you like except soy/soya if you take Levothyroxine an hour before or two hours after. Cruciferous veg are goitrogens and best eaten lightly cooked rather than raw. If you have Hashimoto's or gut issues it may be worth eating gluten-free.

I am "sugar free" as part of fixing adrenal issues. Started it 4 years ago and never sorta looked back. Now I am "sugar free" out of free will as I am not craving pure sugar. Fruits and berries does the trick for me.

I do get a glass of normal soda sometimes, or a piece of cake and that is it. Very little is enough as I have learned that sugary stuff does not taste much else but sugar. So I sort of learned out of sugar while fixing adrenal glands and I am happy about it :D

Hello! Sorry to kind of butt in but I am desperately wanting to go sugar free for similar reasons! Could you please let me know how you started?

Thanks!! :)

I read a book called The Schwarzbein principle II , figured out I am insulin sensitive with burned out adrenal glands and adopted recommended diet :D

Basically frequent meals was the key thing. I ate and still eat three meals and two proper snacks.

I always have soya milk on my porridge in the morning, but it is about five hours after I have taken my thyroxine pills. I take the pills about 4 a.m. I feel o.k, but wonder if this is right or wrong. Could anyone tell me, please.

Just curious as to why you take your thyroxine at 4am? Do you wake up then naturally?

I do wake up about every two hours, usually to go to the loo, but also I get up at 6 a.m and make a cup of tea and have a biscuit, and I have always thought that you should not eat until about two hours after taking thyroxine. I am on 125 mcg of thyroxine. By the way, I am not diabetic as have been tested. Thankyou for your concern.

Marguerite9 you can eat breakfast an hour after taking levothyroxine. Just leave 4 hours before taking calcium and iron if you take those. Also do not take calcium and iron together as the calcium prevents iron absorption. Could you not take your thyroxine at 6 a.m. and your biscuit, preferably with caffeine-free tea at 7 a.m.? So basically avoid food and caffeine for an hour after taking levothyroxine and supplements, especially calcium and iron for 4 hours.

Thankyou for the information belwom. I never knew that it was an hour after taking the thyroxine. Thought it was two hours. Must give it a try.

Very kind of you to answer.

Hi I am in my sixties now but years before I knew I was hypothyroid, when I was 15, I had a drink of coke at my local youth club. Immediately I started to shake and I had to go home because it made me so ill. To me coke is a poison and I never bought it for my kids when they were growing up because of what happened to me. I cant even recall what it tasted like because it all happened so fast. All I know is that it made me very ill.

thats what happened to me the last 2 days :S not sure if it was a coincidence or what not, i used to drink 2 litres a night! before i was ill ofc. Thats what most likely made me sick!

I could drink coca Cola too before I fell ill but not anymore as I guess it is the combo of caffeine and sugar being bad.

Sugar has a large effect on me of giving me a burst of energy. I sometimes use this to get myself up and dressed, or out of the house. But I'm sure it's a bad idea, so I'm working myself up to phase it out of my diet.

I dont drink sugary drinksbut sweet food like cake makes me sleepy.
