My blood tests

Free T4 of 16.8 ( normal 12.3 to 20.2 )

T 3 of 3.6 ( normal 3.7 to 6.7)

TSH of 0.01.

Hello

I have been on 1 grain Armour Thyroid for and 75 mg levothyroxine for about 15 years but I am finding it difficult financially. I went to see a endo Dr Z a couple of months ago and did my blood tests which were free T4 of 16.8. T3 of 3.6 and tSH of 0.01. He prescribed me to go up from 75 Levothyroxine to 100 and take Liothyronine 2mcg half twice a day.

This was about 6 weeks ago and when I made the switch my hair became really dry and lots more than normal falling out so I thought it wS because of change in medication so I ordered some more Armour only to find the price increased fro £51 to £75 and I've been told they will be doing another increase very soon by 50%.

Has anyone had a successful switch from armour to Liothyronine perhaps it was not the switch that caused the hair problem any advice greatly appreciated.

Many thanks y

Bee

Sukiwarrior, I've edited Dr. Z's name from your posts in accordance with posting guideline #25.

I doubt 25mcg increase in Levothyroxine would cause hair loss.

I'm a bit confused about how much Liothyronine you are taking. Is it 20mcg or 2mcg daily?

Hi Clutter,

It is half of 20mcg twice a day and 100 levothroxine do you think this is good for my results. Do you think it will work as good as Armour.

Sukiwarrior, it doesn't appear to be working as well as Armour + Levothyroxine as you're now losing hair. It may be due to the fact you're now taking 20mcg T3 as opposed to the 9mcg T3 in one grain Armour.

I presume the results were based on Armour+Levothyroxine? I think FT3 was low but you haven't included the ref ranges so I can't be sure. The 20mcg T3 you are now taking will improve FT3.

Six weeks is early days so you can wait and see whether the hair loss resolves in a couple of months. If it doesn't there are less expensive brands of NDT than Armour.

Is the FT3 the same as T3.

I am sorry but i find it all so confusing and my GP knows not a lot about thyroid I have bought another bottle of armour but in 3 months when i finish I can not afford to buy more so do you think the Liothyronine will work as good as armour.

Sorry if i am getting you confused.

Many thanks
