newly diagnosed need some answers

Every day is different with the things I can do last week I was on holiday and everything was fine although I was very sensitive to the sun and felt tired. Then I had swelling in my legs and then numbness and weakness in all my limbs. I am still struggling to wash my hair as can't hold my hands up long enough, can't dry my hair because of this can't apply my make up. Open anything a car door a wrapper, simple very day things. Every day one arm seems to be worse than the other some days my walking is ok other days I'm back to limping. I feel dizzy, sick and spaced out. Ive been put on Levothyroxine and have been taking for the last 3 days as well as being on Pregablin for my nerve/muscle ache. Has anyone else experienced the same symptoms and do I need to take my Levothyroxine at the same time every day?

thanks Claire x

Oh poor you clairelizzie,

Unbalanced hormones can truly wreak havoc on your poor body and I feel sorry that you also have to contend with Pregablin.

It sounds as if you have had a previously undiagnosed thyroid problem for some time which can take time to rebalance. A TSH 9.38 is high and could explain your symptoms.

Levothyroxine can take up to 6 weeks to totally saturate the body meaning 6 weeks until you get full advantage of it. Your doctor should then retest thyroid hormone levels and adjust dose according to results but don't forget that symptoms may lag 6-8 weeks behind good biochemistry.

As Clutter as previously advised....

Take Levothyroxine with water on an empty stomach one hour before, or two hours after, food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements and, 4 hours away from calcium, iron, vitamin D and oestrogen.

I take mine first thing every morning and even pre-open the blister pack so its ready to pop in.

A lot on this forum have suffered terrible hypothyroid symptoms so understand the way you must be feeling is horrid, but as soon as you are adequately medicated things should improve.

Thyroid meds require optimal levels of Vit B12, Vit D, Folate and Ferritin to be absorbed and fully utilised in the body. It is therefore advisable to have these tested and supplement any deficiencies.

I hope you start to feel better soon,
