Angie, it may be worth clearing history and cookies from your browsers, closing your browsers and reopen browsers and try again.

How on earth do you delete history and cookies? Just for future reference - I Don't want to go on the site now, but I haven't been able to for ages.

Clutter profile image
Clutter in reply to greygoose

GG, in Firefox menu > select options > select privacy and there are options to clear history and cookies.

greygoose profile image

Don't have Firefox. lol

Clutter profile image
Clutter in reply to greygoose

GG, open your browser menu and look for internet options > privacy. I don't suppose they differ radically.

Hmmm well, not only do I not have Firefox, but I do have Windows 8, and everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrything is different in Windows 8, and after a year, I still haven't sorted it all out! Plus, it's all in French. lol

So, found out how to delete the history, but can't find anything that looks like privacy or cookies. I shalll just have to keep trying!

If you really mean that you have Windows 8, then I encourage you to go to the Store (from the tiled screen) and take up the offer to update to Windows 8.1. It is straightforward.

(It could take many hours to download, but it does that in the background and eventually tells you that it is ready to go ahead.)

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply to helvella

Of course I really mean it! What do you think I mean? lol

I did Wonder about downloading 8.1, but Don't know anybody that has it, so was unsure that it would be any better. Do you have it yourself?

But, having said that, I really Don't relish the idea of having to adjust to yet more changes when I'm only just getting used to this one. Wish I could go back about 10 years and get back what I had then!

GG, my keyboard switched to French language yesterday when I was replying to a member with a French username. Was spooked and then the damn thing froze and I had to shut down and restart. I love and hate my pc.

greygoose profile image

lol I know what you mean! When I was working, one of the computers I used would change language for no apparent reason and it was hell to get it back to whatever language we'd been using at the time. It wasn't that I cared which language was on the screen, but the keyboard changed, too, and I can only really type with any speed on AZERTY. It used to upset everyone!

Yes, I've been getting blank pages too, using Firefox, my brouser of choice.

-Tried on Safari, and pages load, but my profile comes up as 'no posts' !

- whereas I've been a member (thyroid uk) since 2012 and have posted several comments / replies.

Very annoying and time wasting.

I've just send a reply and it hasnt (yet) appeared.'Good (?) to know': the administrator- supplied links don't work, either.

(and the administrator comment "I had no problem" is unhelpful (!))

redsissy profile image
redsissy

I'm submitting yet another reply, to say that the links/ the site should work on ALL devices and All browsers by definition, as a matter of course.

Redsissy,

A couple of points...

Firstly, your expectations that "the site should work on ALL devices and All browsers by definition, as a matter of course", whilst being entirely understandable, are also unrealistic. Unfortunately, the complexities involved in actually making this happen means that there will inevitably be hiccups. Technology is always evolving, and trying to keep up with it is a never ending task for technicians.

Secondly, you are commenting on a two year old thread that was originally about the main Thyroid UK website ( thyroiduk.org.uk ). But your comments actually seem to imply that the problems you're currently experiencing are with this forum. Is that correct?

redsissy profile image
redsissy

It is thyroid.org.uk I'm referring to, yes.

-(Of course) I mean all the main devices and browsers. Other networks do this.

I'm unable to access thyroid.org.uk via Firefox, either directly or via the email 'newsletter' links. This has been the case for some time.

I'm computer savvy and my devices ( iMac, iPad, iPhone) and software are all up to date. My cache(s) (etc) refreshed regularly .

I'm writing this via Safari. (Earlier - again via S, I couldn't access my old posts and threads, - except for one)

Please draw this to the attention of your IT staff.

Thank you.

redsissy,

That web address above is wrong:

thyroid.org.uk

Should be:

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/index....

That could be your problem.

I use Firefox. It works. I use Firefox, Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome and others on a regular basis. If ever I find anything wrong, I make sure it is reported.

Thyroid UK is a small charity. It does not have IT staff. In my view, considering the lack of resources, it has had a phenomenally stable and available website over the years.

Redsissy,

There is still some confusion here. You refer to not being able to access your old posts and threads. Those are only accessible here on the forum, which is hosted by Health Unlocked. You cannot access posts and threads from the main Thyroid UK website, which is a static website.

If you have problems with this forum, please contact HealthUnlocked Support team here support.healthunlocked.com/...

If you have problems with the main Thyroid UK website, please email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk

I think I must be missing something here.

Is this the newsletter than HealthUnlocked send most days? I have absolutely no problem with that on an iOS device right now.

If not that newsletter, what newsletter?

RedApple profile image
RedAppleAdministrator in reply to helvella

Thyroid UK do occasionally send out an 'e-newsletter', so I'm assuming that is what Redsissy is referring to. That would have links to the main (static) website, but might also have links to posts on this forum.

helvella profile image

Having just checked one recent Thyroid UK e-newsletter, every link to the Thyroid UK website worked in FireFox without issue.

If any do not, it would obviously be good to know all the details such as the actual newsletter, the link (both what is visible and the actual link behind it), and anything else relevant.

redsissy profile image
redsissy

Thank you. That address was a typo (!)* so no, that's not the problem.

I'm referring mainly to clicking on links from the e-newsletter. And I've accessed the site directly (with correct url) but only a blank page appears.

It's not available on *my* Firefox, so in my experience, it does not 'work' and is not phenomenally stable. Glad to hear to have such success. -I can now only access it via Safari, as I've said.

- and that's why I am 'reporting it'.

Best wishes (etc)

*born of exasperation...
