Hi all. I had a scan of my thyroid due to a lump the radiologist told me he thought it was a cyst so I thought great, no worries. However my dr called me in and wants me to see an endo as I'm still symptomatic and I am still showing that I have antibodies. S,he said i need a more indepth svan and firther tests. I'm on 150 thyroxine and have hashimotos x

Teddybear, Hashimoto's is more likely to be causing your symptoms as most cysts and nodules are asymptomatic other than hormone secreting cysts or nodules which tend to cause hyperthyroidism. 95% of thyroid nodules and cysts are benign but it is usual to check suspicious and large nodules via ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration biopsy and the cyst may be drained. You'll be given a local anaesthetic so the procedure is painless but you will be a bit sore and bruised for a few days after.

Hi, I have a lump at the base of my neck, my GP was unsure so I was fast tracked finally. Ultrasound, 2 neck xrays and finally an MRI scan - my thyroid showed a thyroid of someone with thyroid disease, and now I have been diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis in the joint where the clavicle meets the breastbone. Not often seen I believe, so try not to worry too much. I also had the highest level of antibodies my endo had seen, because I was not converting any T3 so was put on a very small dose. This seemed to ease things tremendously [despite what is being said now about T3] And I am on 50 /Thyroxine one day with 10 mcg T3 and the following day I am on 75/thyroxine with 10 mcg T3. Finally my thyroid bloods are normal. And have been so for almost one year! I am from Somerset in the UK. Without doubt it is best you see an expert in the field - an endocrinologist is far superior than a regular GP. I do not believe my previous GP even carried out the correct blood tests, he sure as hell did not listen to what I was telling him about how I felt.

Sounds like you have an on-the-ball GP. Which is a miracle in itself. This is good news, that they are going to look harder at what is causing your condition, you shouldn't worry.

Thanks for the replies and yes it does appear I have found a good gp after 5 years of feeling rubbish. I just didn't get the antibodies bit. The lumps not grown so that's encouraging:) x
