Fish oil

I've just been reading the label on my almost empty bottle of omega-3 fish oil that the recommended daily dose is 4 - 6 capsules. Have only been taking one daily!

Am seriously wondering whether to bother replacing it although it's supposed to be an essential.

Thoughts?

Hello there. I take 1 tablet a day. It is a triple strength pure omega 3. I get them from H Oll & Barr when they have their penny sales on. I can't stand taking oodles of tabs so just one is fine by me. I do a lot of activity so I like to think this is helping me along. I don't eat much fat in food although I eat fatty fish so for me? It's a sort of insurance thing.....just in case.......just in case of what I don't know but I take it anyway.....just in case.....hehe.

Hopefully someone who actually knows something will answer you as Im no expert. I believe it helps me. Wishing you well.

Fish oils are very important for people with Hashimotos. They contain omega 3 oils which in turn contains two acids, EPA which is thought to help with inflammation and DHA which helps the brain.

cinnamon_girl It is really important to read the label on any supplements/pills to check out dosage and added ingredients.

I take 1000mg of Solgar Fish Oil a day. These are expensive but free of gluten, wheat, dairy, soy, yeast, sugar, sodium, artificial flavour, sweetener and color.

More moderately priced reputable companies include Lamberts, Quest, Biocare and obviously many more.

Omega 3 oils can also be found in avocados, nuts, seeds, coconut as well as oily fish.

I am not a nutritionist but have a natural curiosity about healing foods.

Thanks GILL, it was actually my dentist who recommended it just before I started amalgam removal so bought the Eskimo brand. I do try and eat avocados but not oily fish!

mandy - I noticed there was plenty of krill oil supplements, just getting confused by it all!

It is confusing. My eye consultant told me to take krill oil to help with my eyes as I have just been diagnosed with Macular Degeneration. My son works in a laboratory that make suppliments with all natural products with no added nasty bits, and so he got me some. Krill oil is supposed to be better as it is a tiny shrimp like crustacean and feeds on algae in deep sea waters so it is pure oil free from the common fish oil contaminants such as mercury and other heavy metals...............I hope you haven't fell asleep reading this ha ha. It is a lot more expensive though.

Krill contains both DHA & EPA like fish oils but in a slightly different form. More research has been conducted on fish oils so more data is available. However it is considered that Krill is cleaner as sourced from less contaminated areas and possibly contains more antioxidants.

Krill is more potent so you need less but it is more expensive. I shall be switching over to Krill when my fish oils run out on a daily dose of 500mg.
