Is anyone using (or has used) Thro- Gold, ? If so how long did it take to "kick in"? Also is it known if any active hormones (-e.g.. T4, T3 etc.-) in product?

This is the ingredients. Dr Lowe developed it as a supplement particularly to avoid it being a prescription product but it has had good testimonials.

Thanks shaws, have read some of the testimonials and mostly positive. I tried it in the past but think I was a bit too "enthusiastic" and took too high a dose . Having another go, lower dose and maybe for a shorter time to see if it gives me a much needed boost!

Meant to add expect it's the usual trial and error route........ One man's meat etc.

I believe the original dose was 300mg only and many found that it was a bit high, so they split the capsule and took half so the 150mg was introduced.

The fact that it isn't a prescription is good and I hope you find success this time. This is an excerpt from STTM:

THYROGOLD, called a “supplement” , was created by the now-deceased John C. Lowe, and his wife currently sells it. Comes in 150 mg and 300 mg tablets. The mgs is NOT equivalent to the same mgs in prescription NDT tablets. i.e. 150 mg may be “similar in effect” to 1 1/4 grains, but that’s a subjective opinion by some. The thyroid powder in the tablets are from New Zealand pasture-fed cows, plus there is 25 mg of Coleus forskohlii, which is said to promote thyroid function. It is a popular OTC product!

Much thanks again and for your good wishes for success.

I'm taking the 150mg tablets and to be honest it was the Coleus forskohlii that I was wary of as I understood it was mainly taken for those wanting to lose weight . In spite of being hypoT weight is on the low side of "normal" so don't want to lose any! I Coleus promotes thyroid function that's a better option for me

Have done a bit more research and I think if taking Coleus for weight loss would need to be in a much higher dose than is in Thyro-gold... so onwards and upwards, must think positive.

INTERESTING!!! - and written in such a way that even I can understand. Had cataract op. 6 weeks ago and had optician check to-day and optician also explained about how important it is to take things slowly and allow body time to adjust to change

Co-incidence or what?

I suppose we get so used to taking a tablet and headache goes so we expect (and rightly so) that if our thyroid gland is out of whack that the levo should put it right and we are puzzled when it doesn't. The worst of it is the doctors think that's what happens and imagine that we magically recover with a low dose and levo alone and are surprised we keep moaning. They insist on keeping our TSH in range instead of listening to us and knowing the clinical symptoms which should be relieved by hook or by crook.

We need to be like Sherlock Holmes or some other detective as that's all we seem to do 'searching out medication which suits us'.
