Doctor recommendation needed

I live in Sweden. I just moved here and have been so sick for the last 6 months. The doctors here are uninterested in my prior history and treatment of Hashimoto's and provide T4. I was told yesterday that perhaps it is all in my head and I just need anti depressants and therapy. I was also told that I need to consider all my prior treatments were wrong despite the fact that I felt better and could function. My hair is falling out, my skin is dry and cracked, I sleep 14 -16 hours a day, I have terrible headaches and I vomit upon waking each morning. At times, I also vomit throughout the day. I am forgetting things and just feel like I have the flu at all times. I have no life right now.

I am desperate to find an endocrinologist who is willing to listen to the patient and who treats the whole patient and is not just stuck on the numbers on the page. I would love to find someone who prescribes natural dessicated thyroid. I am willing to travel to the UK and pay out of pocket.

Welcome to the forum, Shelleyjayt.

Do you know whether it is permitted to import NDT for personal use into Sweden? If not, there's no point in seeing a private endo in UK with a view to getting it prescribed. If it is permitted you can buy NDT online and monitor your bloods with private tests.

Email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk for a list of private endos recommended by members but check with their secretaries whether or not they will prescribe NDT before booking an appointment. Some will want a letter of referral from a GP.

I am sorry you are feeling so unwell. Once you are diagnosed as hypothyroid I would have thought that medication was continued.

You have to go by your instinct and I know that some people cannot get well on levothyroxine and also it is the recommended hormones in the UK as well and it is a battle at times to get better.

Ignore the suggestions that you are depressed. The don't know, apparently, that a low Free T3 can give us symptoms of depression and it is also a clinical symptom of hypo. They treat each clinical symptom as apart from the thyroid gland and are willing to prescribe medications for the symptom rather than a proper dose of thyroid hormones.

If you can get a print-out of your latest blood test results, with the ranges, and post on a new question members will respond to it. If you've not had a recent blood test ask for TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, and Free T3, iron, ferritin and folate as well as Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D. These vitamins/minerals are usually low with hypo.

So we are starting at the beginning with these tests and if we are able to help/respond we will do so. We are kept very unwell by doctors refusing to treat/diagnose if the TSH doesn't reach a certain level. We, who are unwell, know better instinctively.

Some links for you and you do sound hypo. With hashimoto's of course you can swing high and low which sometimes complicates matters.
