Which test?

Having been to consult a Naturopath he thinks that as I am feeling no better on 3 grains Armour I am probably not converting T4 to T3. So when I go to the GP which test/s do I ask for?

Thanks to all the knowledgeable people on this forum.

If you have both the FT4 and the FT3 tested you should be able to tell. The FT4 will be towards the top of the range and the FT3 towards the bottom if you are not converting well. How is your Ferritin - B12 - Folate - VitD ?? All these need to be optimal for the T4 to convert into the Active T3.... You may need to have it done privately as GP's seem a little un-cooperative in that area :-(

Good luck !

Thank you Marz - I will ask for those tests and see what happens!

I thought the point of NDT was that it contained T3 .Presume that the T4 part has to convert. Not thought of that before.

Treepie, there's unlikely to be a conversion on 3 grains of NDT as the 27mcg T3 doesn't need conversion.

Perhaps I was not clear Clutter, I meant that as NDT contains both T4 and T3 , I assume some of the T4 converts to T3 or perhaps does not as it should?

Treepie, it should still convert to T3 and rT3 if the T3 in NDT isn't sufficient.

Topaz, I think it is unlikely to be a conversion problem but it is possible you are undermedicated. If not, you may want to consider another brand of NDT. Not all brands suit everyone.

Thanks Clutter, but on 3 grains should there not be at least a slight improvement?

Topaz, maybe not if you are undermedicated. If you are optimally medicated it may be as simple as that particular brand not suiting and another may be better. Some people don't do well on NDT though, the proportions of T4:T3 may not suit or they may not tolerate any form of T4.
