newbie need help(on 85 levo but hypo symptoms are still present)

Hi,

I'm new on this site. I live in Europe, 47 yrs old male.

I was diagnosed with hiperthyroidism & Grave's about 3 years ago. My GP put me on anti-thyroid meds but I was allergic to those drugs.

After that I took RAI and I became hypo and gained a little weight(then more and more, puffy face, etc... ). The doc. put me on levo...(85mcg) but I don't feel well on this. Most hypo/myxedema symptoms are still present now, after 2 yrs since I take this daily pills(Euthyrox). My hypo triggered other troubles (sleep apnea, intraocular pressure). I tried change the levo with some natural(armour, n.t.) and novothyral pills(t4 80% + t3 20%) but I failed, unfortunately I got hyper symptoms.

The last decemb.'14 analysis are: TSH-1,3(0,27-4,2); fT4-20,8(10,6-22,7); fT3-4,07(3,4-6,8); T3-1,45(1,27-3,07).

I don't know what to do. Maybe a few suggestions are welcome, thank you.

Sorry for my bad english.

Welcome to the forum, Adin.

I think you may be slightly undermedicated as most people are comfortable with TSH just above or below 1.0, although some need it lower, or even suppressed. Your FT4 is very good but your FT3 is low so you may not be converting T4 to T3 very well. If you can get T3 on it's own the addition of a quarter of a tablet, 6.25mcg, added to your current thyroxine may be sufficient to improve your FT3 without making you feel hyper. Alternatively, increase your thyroxine to 100mcg but it may not improve your FT3 as well as T3 would.

You should also get ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate tested as they are often low or deficient in hypothyroid people and can cause musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and low mood similar to hypothyroid symptoms.

Thank you for quick response.

Some problems here, because if I added a 6,5mcg- T3 to my current levo(85mcg -T4) I feel hyper . How should I manage this. Maybe I should reduce the levo(85 to ->65 mcg) ?

Adin, it may be worth a try and I hope it helps. 6.25mcg T3 is equivalent to 18.75mcg thyroxine. It's such a pity smaller doses of T3 aren't available in UK and Europe. 5mcg and 2.5mcg are available in the USA which is much more appropriate for a lot of people.

Thank you Clutter, yes I know unfortunately it is a problem to find in Eu a smaller dose of T3 . I wonder why 5mcg and 2.5mcg are available just in the USA. 5mcg-T3 would be perfect for me to initiate the addition but I have no where to buy in my country.

Here, I can only find just a combination of T4/T3 (Novothyral 100+20, produced by Merck -a german company) and this is not exactly what I need. I need T3 separately...
