I would be tempted to suggest he gets another job... As an accountant. His job is to make you better, not count his budget.

Rosie, There are links to Lactose free thyroxine here thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/treatm...

Ask your pharmacist how the cost compares with UK generic Levothyroxine and go back to your GP and ask again. If he still refuses write to your local CCG and see whether they will overturn your GP's decision. You might have to attach test results provin you are lactose intolerant.

I too am lactose-intolerant. I had absolutely no problem with my GP who would have prescribed liquid if necessary. However, I discovered L-Henning tablets which are lactose-free. They are made in Germany so that's when the fun began. My GP was happy to write a specific prescription naming this brand as necessary. However, the supplier used by the dispensary in the surgery wouldn't/couldn't get hold of it. Eventually my local Boots was fantastically helpful. They too had to order it on Special but managed it by and large without too many problems, though it took a bit of back and fore at the start. Then late last year after three years with no problems, Boots' suppliers started refusing to supply it, saying it had to be justified. My GP happily gave me a letter, though both she and Boots were furious with the supplier, saying that choice of medication is not up to them. If it's prescribed, that is sufficient. Anyhow, on receipt of the GP's letter, supplies resumed. Good luck but be ready for a bit of a fight. At least you have more info than I had when I started the journey.
