Ferritin needs to be around 80/90 - ( Stored Iron in the liver ) and the B12 is also on the floor. Don't think the medical profession are interested as both are in range - but oh so LOW for your daughter to feel well.

When the body needs iron then there is nothing in the store-cupboard. B12 that low is quite serious in my book as neurological symptoms can occur with a reading below 500. Only 20% of that result of B12 is available for use in the cells. Don't know her symptoms but am guessing she is pretty tired.

With just the TSH result there is not a good thyroid story - you need the FT4 and the FT3 too. The TSH is high as most sensible Docs who understand the thyroid know that a result over 2.5 can indicate problems. \What about Thyroid Anti-bodies ?

it will be interesting to see what the Endo does/thinks - but do not build up your hopes too much. If the appointment is soon then wait - but if it was me I would be dealing with the LOW Iron and B12 asap and buying some GOOD supplements.

Does you daughter have absorption/gut issues ? Food Ferritin levels aid in the conversion of the T4 into the ACTIVE T3 - so that could help her to feel better.

May I ask why she is being referred to an Endo ?

Thanks for your feed back Marz, she was diagnosed with an under active thyroid at the age of 9 & she's 20 now, when i noticed a large goiter (which she still has) its only been recent that we have started to research & found a GP who listened. 3 months ago her TSH was 1.7 after a 25mg increase in her thyroxine but the TSH has now risen again. She is extremely tired all the time & needs a daily sleep, she's always cold even in summer & has a lot of aches & pains so the new GP said he would do some blood tests & refer her & thats where we are now!!!

Thanks again every bit of info helps

Am afraid with Ferritin and B12 that low the outward signs are fatigue - but there will also be a lot going on internally that will not be good either....

Time for some Iron and B12...

HI For accurate treatment she also needs T4 and Free T3 tested. If FT3 is high that will account for high tSH.She also needs diabetes, and vit tested all are hormonal and affect the thyroid. For thyroid patients B12 and ferritin need to be higher an endo should sort that out.TSH too high of course.
