Graves, stomach acid & carb dosage

i noticed a post which mentioned low stomach acid with hypo thyroid . I have Graves and am on tablets for high stomach acid following an episode where I had internal bleeding from my stomach requiring 4 blood transfusions. Just beginning to wonder if this was due to Graves?

I am now on 5mg of carb daily ( after being on 10mg for 10 years). The last endo I saw said 5mg is the smallest dose possible and was trying to persuade me to have RAI which worries me. Any thoughts?

I don't have experience with hyperthyroidism but I have read a few posts wherein some have regretted the removal of their thyroid gland or RAI as the after affects weren't explained properly.

If you email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org and ask for a copy of the Pulse Article by Dr Toft of the BTA and read his answer to a question similar to yours where he gives an explanation.

Members who have had Graves etc. will respond.

Jake123, welcome to the forum. If you post your thyroid results with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after your results) and say what medication you are taking in a new question members will advise whether you are optimally medicated.

Jake, the normal range is very broad and isn't necessarily optimal so it's a good idea to ask for a print out of your results with the lab ref ranges. Ask your GP receptionist or practice manager for your results next time you are the surgery. You can post the results for advice then.

Yeah I will do I sometimes feel they don't bother too much but they don't understand it's not pleasant living with graves

Rambling, Some members cut a 5mg Carbimazole dose into 2 x 2.5mcg and there is a member who takes 5mg every 3 or 4 days which controls her hyperactivity.

Use the HU Search function to see posts on RAI and radioactive iodine before you decide to have RAI which will make you hypothyroid. RAI can be contraindicated if you have thyroid eye disease (TED) and thyroidectomy may be a better option if this is the case.
