Can anybody translate blood results..

Husband has got a printout of his bloods, and we don't understand what MCH is.

His TSH is 0.15 and is marked LO

His Glucose is 9.5 and is marked HI but that's ok as he is diabetic, diet controlled and had just eaten.

The one I don't understand is MCH which is33 and marked HI.

What is MCH?

According to this page : medfriendly.com/mean-corpus...

it could be caused by low vitamin B12 or low folate levels. Get your husband to ask for these to be tested. The GP should agree to it.

I had a look and that's ok - thank you. He has pernicious anaemia, which would explain that one. The last time they raised his thyroxine his heart went mad, missing beats and jumping. Unsure what to do next now.

Fumanchu, PA and hypothyroidism can cause high MCH.

..........do you have a result for his FT4 and FT3 ? It could be he is not converting the T4 into the Active T3. I was once a T4 lady - then added T3 - and am now T3 only. I know when I need my next dose as my heartbeat is more noticeable ! When does he take his medication for the thyroid ? T3 is needed in every cell of the body - so that's an awful lot of T3 - so if the reading is low then things can begin to go wrong. The brain has the biggest call on T3 and then the gut . Have you considered having his VitD tested - it is more than a vitamin - it is a steroidal pre-hormone. May be helpful for you too :-)

I saw your question about taking T4/Levo when you have ME - on another forum. There was one reply which I personally felt did not go deeply enough. There is quite a lot written on this forum about ME and the level of thyroid hormones - in particular T3. It may be a good idea to post the same question here and I am sure you will receive help and support. Have you had your thyroid anti-bodies checked ?

Just a thought.... :-)

I don't think I've had my levels checked - although quite possibly because I keep going back and moaning that I'm knackered and they keep doing bloods which come back "fine" and then I give up and just get on with it for a bit. I'll do some more googling and digging on this, TY!

I found out about vitD a few years ago and we both take a supplement as we're in Scotland and never see the sun lol

Important to test to establish levels as doses are linked to levels....

It's not unusual for levothyroxine to cause side effects like palpitations etc. Ask your GP if some T3 can be added to a reduced levothyroxine as sometimes T3 has a calming effect.

Is it normally done? I will get him to ask but how likely is the doc to agree?
