Tsh result "normal" but I feel awful

My Tsh result came back as 2.4 and no action needed. But, I'm constantly exhausted and sleep night & day. My skin is sore and extremely dry all over, 70% hair loss from my underarms, bald patches down below, rarely have eyebrow hair to pluck. My head hair is getting thin. And my mood is very low.

Is 2.4 tsh good, bad? Do I need to ask for more tests?

Thank you

Welcome to the forum, Lorna.

It's likely you are experiencing hypothyroid symptoms but unfortunately, UK Guidelines mean it is unlikely you will get a diagnosis and treatment until your TSH is over the lab ref range usually >5.0.

Ask your GP to test ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate as they are often deficient/low in the months/years prior to hypothyroid diagnosis and these deficiencies can cause musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and low mood similar to hypothyroid symptoms. Post your results with the lab ref ranges (the figures in brackets after your results) in a new question and members will advise whether supplementation is required.

I'd say that an immune suppressant was a bad idea, especially just coming into the cold and flu season. Your symptoms sound hypo, but you really need B12, ferritin, folate and at least free T4 as well (pref free T3 too) and antibodies in order to be able to tell anything useful. I'd be a vegetable with TSH as high as yours

What time of day did you have your blood test? Always have it first thing in the morning.

It was early morning for my test.

Some links below. It is not unusual for doctors to only take account of the TSH which may never rise high enough and yet ignore (don't know) clinical symptoms which before the blood tests were introduced we were medicated according to those.

There is also other information on the left-hand side of the above links.
