I missed what it was that has made you feel better. Don't feel bad now Debra. I am sure folk will understand that this was posted in good faith and with a wish to help others and certainly not with a desire to promote a product.

The products mentioned were aloe vera and an oil tablet/capsule.

The company that distributes the specific products that were mentioned in the UK is a very forceful marketing company (I think it would be classed as multi-level marketing). Their promotional techniques involve getting those lower down the pecking order to post about them on all forms of "social media".

The removal had nothing to do with the substances themselves - but the perception that in the form posted they could well have been a form of marketing. Saying that a product helps is OK if that is based on personal experience and perception. But when mentioning heavily marketed products it is important for the posts/responses to be seen to be free of the taint of marketing. Maybe downplay the brand (as similar products are possibly available from several companies)?

I agree Rod, we were catering for a function one weekend last year and we shared the kitchen with another group who had hired one of the other rooms in the hall for an AV marketing conference.

They were nice people but listening to them talk about how to sell (and avoiding being sucked in to it all because they were trying to sell to us!) was a real eye opener.

They all seemed to think they were going to become like the Mr Big who arrived in his very flash car to give the inspirational talk, stories of people who had gone from the dole to become millionaires - which when you thought about it logically was never going to happen for most of the delegates. It was fascinating to listen to but we had never seen anything like it so I can easily believe what you say Rod about the use of 'social media' as a promotional technique. Although that was probably not what Debra had in mind

Ah. Amway. Nearly been there and done that. The meeting I attended was like some sort of hysterical religious experience. And the product was metal cleaner. Go figure.

Good grief, are they still going?? I remember my husband and I being invited to dinner at someones house only to find it was more like a snack and a sales pitch. This has to have been over 30 years ago??

My brush with them *was* 30 years ago. In the 'greed is good' Eighties. But they continued to have offices in this very town (and warehousing) for many years after that. Does anyone know if they've gone the way of the Dodo? Fingers x-ed. Although I am mindful that if it is one of their products which has helped Debra, then they are not all bad.

Not as bad as some double glazing companies, the one lot went to quote at my friends house and four hours later wouldn't leave. She went in the bathroom and called the police.

And then of course theres herbalife. I went to one of there meetings. It was like joining a cult! Never ran so fast in my life to get away from there. Lol.

Yip, that sums it up - it was almost evangelical. We the non believers were fascinated. If the venue had been by water I imagine the wonderful one who went from the dole to great riches would have walked on water to get there rather than arriving in his Porsche

I have two Facebook "friends" who promote those products. All their posts on their personal pages about how wonderful each other is, how wonderful their team is, how wonderful their products are. I've blocked them both.

I want to make it clear that I am not moaning about forever, I was saying how much better I feel since taking it. I wasn't forced to buy it, I wasn't pestered to keep buying it, so no hard sell. I just go online when I want it. I was apologising because admin thought I was selling it.

Amway does still exist and is a big company. They have a website if you wish to check them out. They make some good products and some bad ones similar to all companies. I use some of their products; mainly because I haven't been able to find better or equal ones and I have tried very hard to do so. I get the products through my sister who is a customer of an independent business owner. Having them delivered to my house is convenient. The company is likely ok but some of the networks, who are not the company, can be beyond reputable. Not everything they say or portray is true. They don't have a monopoly on this approach. The networks make a large percentage of their money from seminars and educational material. I have met some people who have credited their network experience as beneficial; and even though they no longer are associated, they think some of the educational material has helped them build a better future. So like everything there are good and bad aspects. Both the company and many of the networks utilize christian religion to justify their means. Surprise? Not really.

we have our own opinion, but until I personally have a reason to deal with there products I will continue to use them while they are making me feel better
