Very high antibodies

My antibodies fit thyroid were 736! Started on levothyroxine at 25mcg, had another blood test, antibodies now 578, my Dr has increased me to 50mcg of levothyroxine and want another blood test taken in about 4weeks time, she has said she's not worried about the antibodies but wants to get my ?tsh (think that's right!) a little lower. What do I need to know about such high antibodies? Thanks

Under the heading Topics to the right of this page you will see Hashimotos - click and have a look - there will be lots of information for you to read about. Your GP is wrong - anti-bodies should be acknowledged. It is an auto-immune condition affecting the thyroid. Docs seem to know little about Auto-immune conditions....

Thank you, I will read up on hashimotos. I did think this before I had my 2nd blood test, didn't get time to quiz my GP about it though as it was a phone consultation.

Welcome to our forum

These are a couple of links which will explain. When you get blood tests for your thyroid gland always get a copy of these for your own records and so that you can post if you have a query. Always make sure the ranges are stated as labs differ.

On the morning of a blood test, don't take levo before it, take it after as the TSH is highest then and doctors usually take into account the TSH level. Take levo first thing with one glass of water and leave around 1 hour before eating. Some foods interfere with the uptake. Also, if you take supplements or other medication take these 4 hours apart from levothyroxine.

Thanks for this, had never occurred to me to not take my levothyroxine until after a blood test. I do always take it before food but only 30 mins before, does an hour make a bigger difference in absorption?

An hour afterwards is better....

I think the recommendation is around 1/2 hour is minimum but most of us prefer to wait longer. Supplements and and other medications should be taken 4 hours apart. Calcium is one thing that interferes and we usually have milk in the morning.
