Very interesting. I see David Brownstein is mentioned. I am reading his book "Iodine why you need it" I am taking levo, diagnosed hypo 7 years ago. This year I tested my Iodine levels (Genova urine test) and result was 20 (should be 150-200). I am reading the book and working my way through the protocol. About to start flushing out the halides and then go onto Lugol's iodine. You have to be very careful with Iodine if you have TPO antibodies which I had, but going gluten and lacto free got rid of them. I will post on here how I get on

I just found this page on sources of iodine in food and types of iodine supplements - could be useful :

The trouble with foods is that you cannot guarantee a consistent amount of Iodine. it may be OK once your levels are "normal" to rely on dietary sources but with my reading being nearly non existent I need to dose accurately. I will do further urine /Iodine tests to check how my regime is going.

I'm so glad he says that he doesn't recommend Lugols. That's what I was given by an ignorant doctor. Trouble was, he didn't do any tests, so he didn't know I had Hashi's (neither did I!) and it just made everything ten times worse! I don't think I would be in such a bad state now if he hadn't given me that. Hashi's isn't caused by iodine deficiency.

And don't forget, if you are taking any form of thyroid hormone replacement, you are taking iodine. One doctor once wanted me to take iodine a few years ago, but when he tested it, my iodine was way above the top of the range. I really didn't need anymore. lol

Hugs, Grey

Hi Grey I am struggling to get diagnosed and thought I might give iodine a try off my own bat, but I noted his warning.

I didn't realise, what you have pointed out, that there is iodine in thyroid medication, thank you for that.
