I posted on here last week, however as they say this is not an urgent appointment !!! I would have to wait two weeks to see my G.P. so instead I opted for a phone call as I am feeling rubbish, only my TSH was tested ,92 whatever that means and I have been told its normal and they have prescribed 75mcg Leveroxin. I was taking 100mcg. I have been diagnosed for Hypo

thyroidism some 15 years ago when I was put on 200mcg. this happened after I had a cancerous tumor removed from my Uereta. I was on that dose for many years and in the past five years have gone from the 200 to 125mcg which was fine, since changing G.P.s twice and I have moved, They have both reduced my Leveroxine, saying that I was over medicated on y TSH results. this was said on my last visit and the 75mcg was prescribed , three months ago now. I have been having really bad headaches and have now got swollen painful eyes which I am seeing a consult for a scan on wednesday next week, the doctor at the hospital mentioned that thyroid can cause these sort of problems naming bletheritis whatever that is could be the cause , but I have blurredvision and black dots in one eye ?/ what can I say to my GP that will make her understand that since dropping to 75mcg I have felt so tired and foggy brained my memory is rubbish, allmy family have noticed it as well, Iam 65 and pretty good for my age, but I feel a 100 at the moment. I have put on 7 pounds in weight, and now to combat this gain I have had to reduce my calorie intake to under a 1000 as its the only way to keep my weight down. You have told me to be firm with my doctor and to self medicate but I am loathe to self medicate just in case. I will aske for T4 and T3 to be done , as stand alone TSH is not an accurate result for thyroid . so I will say that. my problem is I really do not no what normal blood tests are. any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am very nervous of tackling my doctor without much knowledge. Thanks Jo.

Jo, TSH just above or below 1.0 is generally comfortable for most people but some need it lower to feel well. As your symptoms have worsened since your dose was reduced to 75mcg you need to stress this to your GP and request an increase. You should ask for a FT4 test too as it is only an assumption that FT4 must be in range because TSH is 'normal' and low FT4 can mean that FT3 is also low.
