Insane Itching...Help?

I have developed insane itching on my head, neck and forearms. It started a couple of days ago and I cannot find any connection to anything new. I have not changed anything I have been eating or drinking. My doctor said to try Ranitidine, but I have heard that it is not good for people who are taking thyroid medications. Help!!!

Have you tried taking an anti histamine? I suffer with itchy, prickly feeling and take Fexofenadine 180 mg daily. Clemmie

Yes. I have tried benedryl, certerizine and allegra. It does not seem to be helping.

Fexofenadine ( Telfast) 180mg is specifically for itchy skin. As far as I am aware, it is only available on prescription. Clemmie

Thanks for the reply. It goes by the name Allegra here in the US and can be bought on store shelves.

I see! I did wonder if you weren't in the UK and that it had a different name. I find that some days I have to double the dose. I hope you get some relief soon. It's horrible. Clemmie

I will give that a try. I am always fearful of overdosing. :)

Actually I am on NDT. Not sure what or if they use fillers. I have been find until the last 3 days and I haven't changed my dosage.

asmile, since the itching is involving only your head and arms and not your body, it's not likely to be a generalized allergy reaction. If your skin is dry, try a moisturizer. Coconut oil sparingly used is good. A very small amount rubbed into the scalp works well. (In the olden days granny would mix a couple of drops of eau de toilette into a bit of lard and use that. Sounds kind of weird to us these days when options appear almost limitless. But it worked. They didn't have many choices so they used what they had.)

You don't mention having a rash or hives.

It is more like red bloches, like someone dripped paint.

That sounds like hives. The more you scratch them the worse they'll get. Glad you got some relief from the medication you took.

Have you had your liver checked? My mum had intense itching, she even treated herself for scabies over and over at first as she was so paranoid! Eventually it was found that she has an auto-immune disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. It's not nice but the itching is now under control psctrust.com/

I am gluten free, dairy free. My mom gets the gluten itch if she eats anything with gluten.

I took an additional dose of Fexofenadine and the itching finally stopped. Now to just see what caused it. Thank you for all your advice!

I get an itchy head after eating potatoes!

After eating wheat my arms, hands, legs and feet itch!

Antihistimines relieve this but I am nearly comatose.

Just easier not to eat them.
