finger, wrist pain anyone?

Hi! I have hashimoto's (dx in March this year) and am on 25mg Levothyroxine. TSH pre treatment was about 5.9, last test was down to about 3.1

Over the past few weeks i have developed sharp pains in my fingers and wrists (intermittent stabbing pains). No swelling, redness or tenderness. Been checked out by the rheumy who has ruled out RA.

Anyone else have a similar problem with an under-active thyroid? - wondering is there is a link. Thanks!

It is probably due to the fact that your TSH is still too high so you are undermedicated. Most people feel better with a TSH of 1 or under.

Aches/pains can be hypothyroid clinical symptoms.

25mcg levo is so negligible as to be no good at all, really. You should have had a blood test after six weeks of beginning with a rise in medication. Most doctors believe (wrongly) that once the patient's TSH is within 'normal range' that's it, no more medication needed.

You have to ask for a new thyroid gland blood test and also get B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate tested too as we are usually deficient. Iron, ferritin etc are vital for the conversion of T4 into sufficient T3. Some people are not good converters.

Always get your thyroid gland tested first thing in the morning and do not take medication until after it. If you have eaten you must allow a 2 hour gap each side of taking levo as some foods interfere with the uptake. Take any supplements or other medications 4 hours apart from levo.

Always get a print-out/copy from the surgery for each blood test for your own records and so that you can post them if you have a query. They must also state the ranges as labs differ and the ranges enable members to comment.

The aim of medication is - first of all - to make us feel well. Second to bring the TSH down. Some of us need a very low or suppressed TSH.

Hi, I have hand, wrist, finger and thumb pain, I'm hyperthyroid, plus i have Parkinson's. This pain in my hand joints is my PD shakey side so of course everyone says it's the Parkinson's .I was told some years before PD that I would have Arthritis in my hand by a doctor after I broke that arm. My finger were a little lumpy on joints.

I often wear a splint to help as sometimes the pain is excruciating. My PD consultant was slightly amused because of course I have PD and everything is put down to that.

You can get Carpal Tunnel of wrist with thyroid problems. I don't know if that would affect your fingers, hopefuly some better informed members will know.

I agree with shaws... also check out B12 deficiency and take a look at neurological symptoms on....

Thanks. I will be having my levels retested next week so hopefully the dosage can be increased if needed.

My B12 level is 248 - normal accdg to my doc although from what i am reading online this might be low?

Your B12 is too low. You need to have Vit D, folate, ferritin etc tested and you definitley nedd an increase in levo. I have Hashi's and I'm on 100mcg and my TSH is below 1. Symptoms have reduced. I also have painful areas at base of my thumbs, but it has reduced a bit.
