Help understanding blood test results.

Hi, I'm new here. I have just collected some blood test results yesterday and have tried unsuccessfully to decipher them. Just looking for some help and wondering if anyone had any knowledge they could give me. I went to the doctors last week with what I suspected to be Lichen Sclerosus and a low thyroid. I have been suffering for months with feeling tired, lethargic, cold, heavy periods plus few others symptoms of low thyroid the doctor wasn't convinced and suspected low iron and b12. Could anyone please let me know if anything stands out on these tests. I have been going to the gym since beginning of February, I lift weights and do cardio and have struggled to lose 4 lbs in total and i go to the gym 5 days a week. Also doctor thinks I have Lichen sclerosus and has referred me.

I was told that all tests came back as no action needed, but I'm not convinced. Does anything stand out as not right? Even though they are in range especially as Lichen sclerosus is an autoimmune disease. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time

Kellie

If you suspect an auto-immune cause, ask your doctor to measure your thyroid antibodies. You also need to have your FT3 measured to determine whether or not you are hypothyroid. You might have to a) insist and then b) have this done privately as many labs will refuse to do the FT3 test - even though this is the test that shows if you are hypo or hyper.

A low TSH on its own doesn't make your thyroid function normal. It might indicate that you have an under-active pituitary as it's the pituitary that produced TSH.

I would also consider if you might have adrenal problems. There's a good questionnaire here adrenalfatigue.org/take-the...

If you think that might be the case, then order the cortisol saliva test from Genova UK or Blue Horizon.

Thank you for replying. Is a FSH of 1.17 low ?

Its low and in range. Whether or not it's too low depends on your FT3 level.

As a general rule for primary hypothyroidism (ie your thyroid isn't functioning properly) an untreated patient will have a high TSH - above range. Depending on how well their pituitary works the TSH could be anything from 5 - 100 (ish). Their FT3 will probably be low, which is why the pituitary is producing TSH.

If you have secondary (or tertiary) hypothyroidism then your TSH will be low (low in range or below range) whilst your FT4 and fT3 will both be low. In this case your thyroid could be ok, but the pituitary isn't producing enough TSH to stimulate it effectively.

Does that make sense??
