Am now fully menopausal. Looking for natural remedies to help with symptoms. Have come across the above cream on line. It is supposed to be a natural HRT product. If anyone has used this cream please let me know how it worked or didn't work for you. many thanks

No, but started using it for oestrogen dominance that is causing fibroids and ovarian cyst. After 2 weeks i stopped as it made me exhausted and gave me a 3 day migraine. I also wanted to see if i would have a more normal cycle as mine is super short. Despite the fact i only used it a fortnight over a month ago, this cycle was longer

I haven't used it but it was recommended by a private doctor who said it may be helpful.

I've used it but to no avail. Switched to Natpro and that hasn't worked either. Am still getting hot flushes despite being well past menopause age.

Do suspect that this hot weather affects its absorption or, rather, non-absorption.

I have used it for many years and found it helpful. I stopped after the menopause but have just started using it again as Dr P says we need the progesterone for life.

Hi Mouse, How much of the cream did you take, and how long before you started seeing any improvements

Thanks

I followed the instructions, which varies depending whether you are still having periods. I found I saw improvements within the first month.

I tried it for about 2 months but didn't seem to help - my symptoms were pretty severe, though. I ended up on a low dose HRT which has been wonderful, although did make symptoms worse for first 3 weeks.

I've been using it for around 2-3 years and have found it helpful. No night sweats, I sleep better. Like many things on the market some work and dome don't, it's a process. I tried other homeopathic or herbal remedies and had various reactions. In my case Wellspring worked. Found it doesn't interfere with my meds either as it's topical and absorbed through the skin. The other forms I took were pillules or drops and often had issue with my meds. You can only try and see if it will work for you. Good luck x

I never found Serenity strong enough to cope with menopausal symptoms. This from America worked extremely well, and I am still using it although no longer menopausal - as agree it is a hormone we need constantly. However I would only ever use a bio-identical one - PROGESTELLE - womhoo.com/

Hi there

I saw your comment about Progestelle and wanted to know a little more about your experience with it and the difficulties and expense of buying from a US based company. Would appreciate any information you can offer before I make up my mind whether to purchase your recommendation or Serenity

Thanks

Hello NoelNoel

I used Progestelle for many years - it was very effective. I then became intolerant to coconut oil recently - in which this progesterone is suspended and used as an oil to rub in.

I am now using NATPRO - is a cream also from US. Seems to work well.

Yes I have tried it but I discovered it contains soya oil ...and I understand soya can contain estrogen..... just a point which I don't really understand but with thyroid probs, I avoid all soya

Hi Daffers123 i've just checked the list of ingredients on 'Serentity' cream & it does not contain vegetable oil however the other cream you can buy with them Wellsprings 20-1 cream does contain vegetable oil which i'm guessing is where the Soy may come in. Also the ingredient Xanthan gum may derive from soy but also wheat or corn it doesn't specify. As no other Soy ingredient actually jumps out at me I may perhaps try the product. If it is under a different name & you know of it please let me know. Two other ladies have successfully used it above & have had no side effects relating to soy intake. I like you am careful not to consume any Soy products so i if i do use it I will let this thread know in a few months time if it has helped. Thank you for your input as i often forget to check some products for Soy & did again until you mentioned it.

thanks so much for the info as it is the 20-1 that I have been using with the soy oil. Interesting about Xanthan gum. what a nightmare it all is. I actually get heart palps from soy and also from acacia powder so have to watch it!

I had been doing very well with the 20-1 (Dr D_P recommended it) and having read what Angel of the North said, I think I will keep on with it and watch out for any symptoms. I am post menopausal icidentally.

Good luck with trying it, I got a lot of benefit from using it vaginally rather than on my skin. Let me know how you get on in a while

All or most natural progesterone creams contain or are made from soya. Mostly it's changed in the lab and isn't the same as eating soya.

Thank you so much for the info re soya above. That is great news as I have been doing well on the W-springs 20-1 for a few months now and I will continue with it now. I think I have soya paranoia as it really does make my heart palps bad and keeps me awake all night and increases my BP. Thanks again

It's possible that there could be added soya oil, but if it hasn't been affecting you so far, I wouldn't worry. I can't eat soya or drink soya milk (although I'm OK with miso and tamari, which are both fermented). I think you'd have seen a skin allergy by now if it was going to affect you.

The info about using soya to make hormones came from my private doc, who said that although it was in the raw materials, it wasn't recognisable by the time the lab had finished with it.

hello

I used it for around 9 months and did increase the 1/8th to 1/4. I have since moved to bio identical HRT as I didn't get great benefit from W -apart from alleviating dryness!

Hi what is bio identical hrt. Serenity not helping me either, after a month on it I don't feel any different

Daffers123 profile image
Daffers123 in reply to Clarkie1

HI its a plant based cream - I believe the stuff they use is the same structure so mimics our own hormones - and they make it up to suit the individual. Its not cheap (£90 approx for 3 month supply) plus the consultation and any tests they need. However it has definitely worked for me over the past 2 years. If only they could do similar thing for the thyroid!!!

I go to the Marion Gluck Clinic in London but understand there are other clinics offering the same bio idential treatment.

Forgot to say you just rub it into your wrists before bed and when you wake up - thats it

Thank you all for your replies. Daffers123 thank you for pointing out about the product containing soya oil i too avoid all Soy products.

I tried it, but it wasn't strong enough for me. Best of the bunch though. I am now on biohrt and have 100mg of progesterone a day, so you can see that I'd use up a tub of cream in no time.

I've tried Serenity cream for progesterone, to help period pain cramps but it didn't work. GP prescribed Projuven privately. Can't say it helps that much but it might a little bit

Angel_of_the_North profile image
Angel_of_the_North in reply to FoggyMoggy

I didn't try Projuven, but I did try the other prescription cream Pro-Gest, but I found Serenty more effective - although neither was much good. I don't seem to do skin absorption very well, as stronger compounded creams didn't work completely either, and I now take intracbucccal lozenges which are great.

FoggyMoggy profile image
FoggyMoggy in reply to Angel_of_the_North

Interesting. I didn't find Serenity much help either or Projuven to that matter though I still use it. I think I'm the same with skin absorption

Angel_of_the_North are the lozenges a sublingual method of taking hormones? I've heard this is because they go straight into your bloodstream rather than through your stomach and liver. Apparently the liver will convert hormones to other unwanted and unpredictable metabolites.

Yes.

What are the lozenges please and where did you get them

Angel_of_the_North profile image

They are prescribed by private endo and made up in a compounding pharmacy

I was recommended Sage in H&B and found that better at taking off hot flushes than anything else I'd tried.

Marion Gluck Clinic in London. Expensive.

How did you find M G luck clinic as I have been considering trying to get in. Do they test ALL your hormones ?

A

Angel_of_the_North profile image
Angel_of_the_North in reply to Daffers123

Well, I've been a patient there for about 5 years, so I've only the NHS to compare it with. You get listened to and they will prescribe on symptoms, not just bloods. I couldn't afford to get bloods done when I first went, so they didn't insist.

Bloods: i suspect it depends on what you go for. I get biohrt so they test:

FSH, oestradiol, progesterone, free and total testosterone, DHEA-S, vitamin D.

M gluck clinicians me ill .. progesterone blocked my sinus up and upset my throat ... had ringing in the head and pain in the foreheAd and no sleep .... every time you talk to them it costs ... lots

Angel_of_the_North profile image
Angel_of_the_North in reply to eviepeeve

I think they were more responsive in the past when you actually saw Dr Gluck. Less good now they have brought in a lot of other doctors. When testosterone gave me 'roid rage it I got an almost instant change of script to DHEA without a visit or an extra charge. But charging is what happens when you go private, The NHS makes you forget that you have already paid through taxation (and so has everyone who doesn't use it).

Vile tasting soft tablets that you dissolve in your cheek. They are made in a thing like a mini ice cube tray and you pop one out and divide it into quarters.

Hi

20:1 is bio identical progesterone cream which you use topically - down below or on areas of thin skin. It was as a result of sex hormones test. however I moved on to Serenity (also Wellsprings.com ) as am. post menopausal and can use it every day whereas 20:1 suggests use 21st days then stop 7 days - too tricky to remember. Also 20:1 contains soya which doesn't agree with me

A

They work for me, when creams didn't. I hate to think what the fillers are, probably something nasty, but the active ingredients for me are oestriol, oestradiol, progesterone and DHEA
