Hey---, Undiagnosed hypothyroidism can cause periods to stop. Ask your GP for a thyroid function blood test and get a copy of the results with the lab ref ranges and post them into a new questions for comment/advice.

i had a thyroid test when I went to sort out my chest pains, they say it's normal but it runs in my family and I'm having the same symptoms my dad and grandma do, my doctors aren't attentive and won't do anything unless it's a serious case

Hey---, ask your GP Receptionist for a copy of your thyroid results with the lab ref ranges. Speak to the practice manager if necessary, patients are entitled to their test results under the Data Protection Act.

Normal falls into a very broad range and NICE guidelines recommend women trying to conceive and newly pregnant should be in the low normal range 0.4-2.0.

You should also ask for ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate to be tested as symptoms of deficiency and low levels can present similarly to hypothyroidism.

If you find your GPs dismissive you should consider changing GP practice nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1088.aspx

Speaking from personal experience, from 2010 I went through phases of my periods becoming irregular (I've gone for as long as five months without one.) They returned soon after I began to take NDT (Nature-Throid) and while I wouldn't say they've been regular as clockwork since then, I haven't skipped any completely. (I should point out that I'm 46, so my age could have been a factor, but I've fairly convinced the NDT sorted them out.)

You might also want to look into your progesterone levels and perhaps supplement with progesterone cream
