Just realised my palps. and fast pulse have come on in the last few weeks and I have been taking 25mcg. of Mercury Pharmacy along with Almus 100mcg.

They have certainly caused problems for my special needs son and me. They seem to have caused me to be allergic to an awful lot of everyday chemicals such as shampoo and soap. Things you can't really avoid. I can no longer have my hair coloured either and just going in the hairdressers makes me cough. Janet.

That's interesting about the shampoo, I have been using my usual one and it has been making my head itch the last couple of weeks since been on the MP

Browny, some people have problems on MP and others on Actavis. If you take an antihistamine an hour before taking your Levothyroxine and symptoms cease it is likely that one of the fillers is causing your problem and you should ask your pharmacist to supply Wockhardt 25mcg which has fewer fillers.

Hi Maudss, I thought you were on Eltroxin! have they now stopped it in Ireland as well? Janet.

In the 25 microgram dose, Eltroxin and Mercury Pharma Levothyroxine have always been identical and have the same product licence number. Whether or not there has been any change at all over the month and years is another matter.

(It was also sold under the Teva brand - thought Teva's 50 and 100 microgram tablets were entirely differently formulated.)

It's eltroxin but mercury Parma have taken over making it and it's definately changed I asked my pharmacist could I get any other brands but he said we can't get any other type here in Ireland I definately think they've changed the tabs.

Try the antihistamine, Mauds.

Trying it in the morning clutter I'll keep you posted. Ringing a private endo on Monday heard good things about her can't go on like this much longer. She looks into adrenaline and prescribes armour. Don't care what it costs my body can't take much more of this. I'll have to wait couple of weeks to see her heard she's very busy but very good.

Mauds in reply to rojael

How are you getting on on Activas. The eltroxin I am on now is made by Mercury Pharma it is called Eltroxin Levothyorxine and I definately believe it is whats causing me problems. It is definately generic brand. I will ask my pharmacist if he could order it for me thanks for the reply

is it ok to be taking antihistamines every day Clutter?

Clutter profile image
Clutter in reply to TSH110

TSH110 many people take antihistamines for 4/5 months for hayfever so I don't believe it will be damaging. I'm not actually suggesting antihistamines for long term use to tolerate the fillers in Levothyroxine but to 'test' whether the fillers are causing the sensitivity. One would hope that doctors will accommodate filler sensitivities by prescribing liquid Levothyroxine but I suspect some might have too much regard for their practice drug budget.

It is an interesting suggestion to find out if they are causing problems. I have always been a bit scared of them, but boy they helped when I was itching like crazy! I feel reassured that it is ok to use them more generously if needs be. I see where you are coming from now with them, I misunderstood. Budgets be damned - they should be made to suffer that itching they'd soon change their tune if they had to put up with it every day...or heart palps etc

Dr. John Lowe recommended it to a patient on his fibro website.

I always have Clarityn/Loratidine around to cope with midge/mossie bites that I react to and it was excellent to sort out my dog's allergic reaction to some plants in the wild area of our park. It was the pet shop owner who sussed the problem when my usually excellent vet was stumped. Poor Bruno was tearing himself to pieces and needed antibiotics when the scratches became infected.

TSH110 profile image
TSH110 in reply to Clutter

Poor thing, glad his bites got sorted. Yes I got some awful bites last week that came up really big and itchy. I tried hydrocortisone cream to no effect, antihistamine not much better but good old calamine lotion seemed to really soothe them. I think there are some horse fly type bugs in my muck heap at the allotment that had a good old chomp at my legs

Clutter profile image
Clutter in reply to TSH110

Damn horsefly bites are the worst. They seem to join up and become huge painful hot red welts on me. Triple dose Clarityn for them!

My taste buds seem to go awry every few months. Meat dishes taste unpleasantly sour and tomatoey for a weeks then just as suddenly back to normal. The dogs eat well those weeks.

That is really strange Clutter but what lucky doggies! I used to get problems with smelling nasty things everywhere it drove me nuts. It stopped once I was treated with Levo thank goodness!

I had a bad reaction to 25mcg. Merury Pharma levo.with symptoms of itching all over, fizzing heels and exhaustion. I sent a yellow form which was acknowleged and I am now on Wockhardt which seems to be OK for me.

you can get a pill cutter and chop up the almus. 50mcg would be easier to cut into 2x 25mcg. I asked my doc for 50mcg so I could do just this, cos I felt weird on MP and did not like the bitter taste of the wockhardt 25mcg. Boots and the like sell pill cutters for a couple of quid. That way you can stick to the same type of levo like all the guides say you should

Clutter profile image
Clutter in reply to TSH110

That's strange, TSH110, I find the Wockhardt 25mcg unpleasantly sweet and hold it between my teeth until I can slosh it down.

TSH110 profile image
TSH110 in reply to Clutter

oh my taste has gone very strange with this illness, Clutter. I can't stand sharp things any more and will only eat the very sweetest fruit - everything else tastes so bitter to me it is unbearable and I salivate hugely to try and dilute the bitter taste, my mouth becomes awash and I start to grimace...I just cannot eat it. Yet I loved sharp apples and the like when I was younger. I still like rhubarb and goosegogs tho!

I also find it unbearably sweet and it gives me nausea

Thanks,

Yes that's what I will do, ask for the 50's and cut them.

That's very interesting. I take MP all in multiples of 25 and don't feel right. I've been taking supplements for a while now and started to feel a lot better and I'm a few kg lighter as well. Recently though I did a food intolerance test and minerals and vitamins. I have an allergy to brassicas but being sceptical I didn't want to say so and he respected that, let's get going and see if he finds the same! Was happy with that. I was told most show up to 10 problems but he did have an anorexic lady who showed 20! I got 42! Most of my vitamins were low despite supplements. I'm trying to work out what I can eat for a month before I start slowly adding things. I've also noticed that some brands of cleaning products irritate as well. Its only fairly recently that has come apparent. Corn is one intolerance so wondered about corn starch in fillers. I asked Endo other week and was told that so little in shouldn't make a difference but I wonder and also wonder if it is better taking a 100 mcg tablet rather than 4x 25?

I myself cannot take mp it gives me very bad palps sever stomach cramps and nausea I spoke to my pharmacist who made a note not to give mp only actavis you can request this to your pharmacist you don't have to take something if it does not agree with you, you will probably find your pharmacist is easier to talk to than your doctor so please don't suffer there is no need. hugs jayne

Thanks,

I am going to request Almus 50 and cut them in half.

I have been feeling nauseous just lately so makes me wonder if the MP are causing that as well.

With me it's the Almus and Actavis that causes the problems. I have no problems with the MP.

I have been feeling ill for quite a while and couldn't get to the bottom if it. Thank you to all on here who mentioned MP as a poss problem. That's what I was taking and I have discovered the palp sand nausea (all day every day) were related to the MP Levo, prob the fillers. Have been on Activas this week and so far, much better. No palps or nausea yet. So thank you all. I did read somewhere that they are using something (was it acai berries) as a filler which is used in diet pills. Anyone know more on this?
