Thyroxine fillers

Can anyone tell me if its the fillers in thyroxine or the thyroxine itself that can cause palpitations. Iv had to reduce my meds due to ongoing palpitations. Would liquid form thyroxine reduce some of the negative effects.

I know everyone reacts differently but im interested to find out what you think.

Thanks

Christine

Yorkshiregirl, It is very rare to be allergic to thyroxine which is a naturally occuring hormone, but fillers can cause problems.Take an antihistamine an hour before taking your Levothyroxine (T4). If palpitations cease then fillers are your problem.

I had severe palpitations and tremors on T4 monotherapy which ceased when Liothyronine (T3) was added, calming the adverse effects I experienced on T4.

Yorkshiregirl, this is just what I have been going through for the past 4 years since the change from Eltroxin, plus a glue like covering on some spots on arms, legs and scalp. As I can taste shampoo in my mouth a few hours after I have washed my hair, I feel the MP Levo has, in some way, made me very allergic to chemicals. I have a terrible time coughing when I go to the hairdressers and cannot have my hair coloured now. Came off MP Levo in February and went onto Wockhardt Levo, but with no noticeable change in symptoms . Sorry you are suffering too, but so glad I and my son are not the only ones. So thankful for this site so that we can all bring this problem out into the open. Janet.

Hi Clutter, did you ever feel like you'd been poisoned. I had the palpitations, tremor, tight feeling in chest and an all over feeling of being 'toxic'.Not having been poisoned before, I'm not sure if what I felt was a toxic reaction, but now I don't take Levo it has gone. Did you have a similar feeling/symptom?

Keziablue, yes, I did. I was over replaced for a long time with FT4 >30 and thought it was that but symptoms didn't improve when FT4 was within range and symptoms improved when I was off Levothyroxine for 4 weeks at one point. Eventually I stopped T4 for 3 months to clear a build up. I had palpitations and tremors within hours of resuming T4 but the addition of T3 a couple of days later calmed them.

It's no different for us here in Ireland I'm suffering with awful palps and anxiety and tremors been reduced from 125 to 100 eltroxin but it's made my MP still no better on lower dose two weeks now. I'm going to try what clutter said and try antihistamine see what happens it's worth a try only thing is we have no other brands of thyroid meds here in ireland

Hi  I'm here again, have all the above symtoms,2 weeks ago went onto Eltroxin, hated it ,back aches, groin pains.Went to docs and got script for natural desiccated, drove 45 mins to pick it up, had tried it once before 75 mcg,doc said try 50. Took it this morning, wham! Blood pressure shot up, rang Doc.who said don't take it,am going back to T4. Will try the antihistamine before.I thought it was only me and that I was unique.I asked the doc if they had changed the formular,I have taken it for years and years [ I am 80] no problems. What is going on with it.We can't all be wrong. There is only one brand here in Aus.Not being helped with palpitations as I mentioned before,my husband is scheduled for Quadruple bypass next Thurs.I am worse than him. T 3 also gives me high blood pressure.
