Have Dr Peatfileds and Stop the thyroid madness - which are invaluable. Any other good books that are a good read? :)

Thyroiduk.org have a library and for the cost of postage you can borrow.

An especially good life story is Diana Holmes 'Tears Behind Closed Doors'. Dr Skinner's Diagnosis and Management of Hypothyroidism (2003) and

Hi sip

I've got a dozen thyroid books including your two and the two that shaws mentioned. There's also 'Hypothyroidism: The Unsuspected Illness' by Dr Broda barnes, 'Hypothyroidism Type 2: The Epidemic' by Dr Mark Starr (just bought, haven't read it yet) and and not forgetting 'Living Well with Hypothyroidism' by Mary J Shomonpatient advocate.

At the moment I'm reading Dr Skinner's book, it's a great, and also amusing read.

Paul Robinson's book 'Recovering on T3' is excellent of standard thyroxin (T4) is not working for you ie still lacking energy, brain fog etc. I got my life back through his book as I cannot convert T4 to T4. I could only walk 300 yards on T4 but after a year on T3 I climbed Skiddaw two weeks ago in the Lake District!

Hi. I have also read Paul;s book and initially one month ago started on T3 but i have not seen any changes especially in my main concern with facial swelling. What was your experience and did you have normal labs or low thyroid function? I am wondering what dose you took?

I'm unconfirmed Hashi. I tried T4 only for 2 years increasing dose until TSH was 0.01 and doctor reduced T4. He then sent me to endo as I could do nothing (500m max walk). He agreed T3 in addition to T4. Brain improved 60% and energy 20%. I told him about reverse T3 from T4 if my chemistry was faulty converting T4 from T3 (I used Paul's book for info and my confidence but did not mention it to endo). He thought about for a week, then said 'yes'. Within days I improved and within 3 weeks was a different person. Within 3 months I was near normal. That's what happened to me.

Thanks for this. I am wondering how quickly you increased your dose and at what dose you noticed a change. I am at 90 mcg T3, no change

How are you taking the T3 and what other medication are you on? Have you had vitamins checked?

Hi T3sortedme that's awesome. Ive climbed Skiddaw a few years ago when I had more energy. I seem to be declining a little more every year. I read Paul's book too. Do you have Hashis?

See reply above!

Recovering with T3 by Paul Robinson is my bible!

I am now reading it for the fifth time.

And his second book I have read three times so far.

Every time I read them I learn and understand more.

I have all the other books mentioned above but these are the best for me.
