Still suffering with symptoms while taking levothyroxine

Hi,

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in my early teens (I'm now 27) and have been taking levothyroxine since then but don't seem to have really gotten any better.

I'm currently on 175mcg levothyroxine a day (which I take religiously) and my GP says my blood results are at "the low end of normal" so won't increase my - already high - dosage.

The problem is that even though my GP says I'm on the right level of medication, I still have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism! I'm exhausted constantly, my hair is falling out in clumps, I have trouble with concentration, etc etc.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or have any advice on how to deal with it? I feel so awful all of the time and it's really affecting my life, impact on my job and my relationships, my kids is huge. I just want to feel normal again!

You poor thing - it is rotten isn't it. You will learn a lot from this site, there are so many people on here with the knowledge to help you get better and I am sure many will reply. Do you know whether you have Hashimotos as most people who are Hypo do?? You could well have issues with absorbing various important vitamins and again, there will be someone along in a while to tell you what they are etc. - you will be able to feel a lot better with the help from here - good luck.

Hi, it's a nuts situation as I'm the same. I'm on 100mcg and nothing ever changes for me with symptoms, If I go to high on Levo... Nothing, if drop Levo.... Nothing. I'm now seeing an endo, but already I sense he might send me packing.... Because everything is normal! However, I am going for an MRI scan to check my pituatary.

Good luck, we all need it!

Has your T3 been tested Mark, to check adequate conversion from the T4 Levo?

Good luck with the scan.

Hi Hypnoteq, my FT3 is actually registered as high at 5.69, this was done in Jan at the GPs. When I visited the endo he didn't even consider testing this. I'm waiting on my latest results from May after my 1st endo visit. It's the usual hypo blood tests...

I feel exactly the same as you and have been having an ongoing battle with my GP for a long time. I have given up and trying to get anywhere and have bought cynomel and will self medicate.

Hope you get some answers and feel better soon

this was me.. for a good few years, before reading several items about taking it in the evening before bedtime. After researching it, I decided to give it a go.. my levels have gone from Normal/Satisfactory, to Normal and I feel more awake when I wake up and dont feel sluggish in the morning. What a difference, but you need to be aware, that some people have found it keeps them awake, not me, I sleep much better than I have in a long time, and I think this is due to me being more awake in the day and having more energy, thereby making it possible for me to do more physical exercise. I have also lost a bit of weight and this is continuing slowly. Feeling much better in myself. Have told my nurse who does my blood tests and she said if it works, then carry on.. so I am. Debbie.
