Another antibody question

On the main TUK site it says 'It is perfectly possible to establish a firm correlation between the levels of antibodies present and the severity of the illness'

Does anyone know if there is any scientific documentation to support this, that I could stuff up my endo's nose when I next go (if I next go!).

HarryE I have antibodies (recent diagnosis) and am hypo, on 100mcg levo. I still have symptoms and so I am going to try Paleo to reduce my antibodies. I have decided to be an experiment! I am going to do iodine test (urine sample) and get Vits and mineral levels checked, private tests if necessary. Then start on paleo, no gluten, no dairy and for me no eggs and no potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and aubergine. See how I go. I am hopeful this will be the last piece of the jigsaw of my health. Assuming I eventually feel normal I will get retested for all above!! If not then I think the way forward has to be NDT! I will report back! Pleased to read that NDT is helping you.

I think I would die if I had to cut so much out of my diet :-D

Hopefully most of it is only for 30 days. Gluten free is permanent and if I show problems with milk. Hard cheese and well fermented yoghurt will hopefully be ok. The nightshade plants would be a problem as I love ripe tomatoes and peppers. I would have to decide how much unwellness I could cope with- a trade off

Hi,

Because my GP and various consultants would not listen to me when I was telling them that I really felt that my thyroid was to blame for all my increasing symtoms - and not depression or M.E. as they tried to fob me off with - I ended up becoming a woman obsessed with proving to them that I knew there was more to it!

I ended up getting as much info as I could, and wrote to my MP, who wrote to the hospital and managed to secure me a second opinion - from this, I then had a scan, two biopsies and was finally proved correct in working out that I had Hashimoto's along with De Quervains.

Part of my letter included the information from two NHS Clinical labs (one was the hospital I was going to) which both say that antibodies are highly indicative of thyroiditis and that follow up is advised. I just thought that they couldn't argue with information that they themselves were (supposed to) be following.

Someone else might be able to help with particular studies, but I hope that these two refs might be useful to print out and quote at your GP. ( You may have to scroll down to find the bits on Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies).
