I think it will depend on your iodine levels to start off with... Too much iodine seems to be as detrimental as too little - so it's quite a fine balance. I'm currently taking 1000 mcg of sea iodine to help with conversion of T4... But I'm also taking NDT rather than Levo now... So who knows which one is making me feel better! I do though so maybe worth a try for you too? Just go slowly and probably best to avoid any extra goitrons if you do take. I'm not eating any soy, spinach, kelp etc now...

all answers about iodine--are in dr.david brownsteins books along with a few other very knowledgeable docs here and in the US... 150micro are the lowest amount to take and it only helps with goiter and--not the recommended dose to help the thyroid--search google as dr.bob dr.dave dr.peat dr.etc.etc.etc. and also the 24hour urine iodine loading test--to see if you are iodine deficient, if not the recc..dose for maintenance of thyroid health is about 12mg --way higher than the ridiculous american rda amounts...hope these help you--i take lugol's iodine and has made a huge difference...

Sorry Mi55Red I meant to ask where are you getting you NDT from and how have you worked out your dose? I am really thinking about trying it myself as I don't think Levo is doing what it should for me...obviously I will wait until me results come back before I decide. Thanks in advance x

I have been advised that you should not take kelp when you have hashimotos.

Firstly I would Concentrate on getting your free t4 to the top of your lab rangee

Thanks Suze

As far as I'm aware I don't have Hashimotos, and I don't think my blood test included checking for anti bodies x

may i suggest--IODINE by dr. brownstein his book seems to be the most topnotch information on why we need iodine-- i just purchased lugol's iodine and will see how it goes--he recommends 15mg to 50mg that's mg's not micro-grams if one is iodine deficient but the nhs doesn't do the proper iodine loading urine test-- ( at least not in north west wales ) others suggest 12mg daily to keep us running well, esp. if our diets don't include loads of sea products and other foods--his book is very thorough..& not just for the thyroid -but breast tissue and most other organs and systems, p.s. be wary of kelp from radiated seas, lugol's iodine is safest way to achieve a pure product. hope this helps..

Well done you for getting your doc to test your iodine!

You're aware, of course, that there is iodine in Levo? I don't know how much. Be worth asking your doc about that?
