I have my first endo appointment on Monday and I'm a bit cross with the hospital I'm going to as the secretary has told me she would send a letter to my address about the amended appointment date and time. She called me on the Wednesday and I was led to believe that I would expect this letter fairly soon, say Thursday, at the very latest Friday. Haven't received it.
What sort of questions should I ask the endo at my appointment?
I've been getting a very strange pain at the back of my neck - I wouldn't like to say it hurts, just annoying. It's almost as if I have a tender spot in my neck that I can't locate but when I touch it the pain goes away. This doesn't sound like fibromyalgia as I would get the pain on both sides and I would have to get pain in several areas, surely. Is this thyroid related?
Would my endo/GP sign me off since I really feel too tired and poorly to sign on at the Jobcentre once every fortnight? Sometimes I just think that they would only do that if I look sick enough, but they don't say I look sick - yet I feel it.
Also some of the guys from my local support group have said I look worse than before Christmas - but my iron has increased so it can't be down to iron deficiency?
Fibro doesn't suddenly present with 18 hot spots It starts a bit at a time and not necessarily in neat pairs in muscles and joints.
Neck pain is a very common hypo symptom. Appropriate thyroid medication often resolves neck pain and fibro. My head feels to heavy for my neck to support, then the muscles in my shoulders ache and finally my lower back and hips.
Tell your endo about your fatigue and ask him/her to sign you off or recommend your GP does. You don't have to lookill to be unfit for work.
I used to work in the NHS & suspect even if the letter has been written & sent from the consultant's secretary it may still be in the mail room awaiting sorting - or elsewhere in the general postal system! Regardless of whether id does ever surface, the important thing is you do have an Endo appointment - many of our colleagues' GPs won't refer so at least that suggests yours is treating your situation as genuine. Hopefully you can work at developing a positive relationship with your consultant too so that they will work in partnership with your GP & other agencies (e.g. Job Centre) to support your difficulties.
Letter arrived today. I was a bit anxious about it as the letter for the original appointment mentioned about bringing the letter along to speed up the booking process. And I was a bit worried about turning up on Monday without it!
I actually see an endo that's had good things said about him but I'll put this in another question.
