I only started geting joint pains (in wrist and ankle)over past wk or so,it started just before my period so i tjought it must be somehow hormone related.Today i just found out that oestrogen deficiency can cause joint pains.(usually happens in menopause:but i am not yet, hope!)This article in WDDTY reccomends Rhubarb Root as a remedy for female hormobe deficiency.Thing is i have read before thst high oestrogen isnt good with hypothyroid...so dont know about taking something that increase oedtrogen.By the way,the latest issue of WDDTY is a Cancer 'special';v interesting ,useful, inspiring for anyone affected eho doesnt neccesarily want go down tje 'grim' 'conventional' route.(my mother was recently diagnosed).

This is also a symptom I suffer with my wrist aches most of the time however it's more intense before my period is due and it's usually the right side (both wrist and ankle) and some times also my elbow and knee too. My GP also blamed estrogen levels as he said the levels drop before your period. I am convinced it's related to my thyroid as lots of other symptoms too however my GP is happy with my dose of thyroxine and won't increase my dose.

I'm not sure I believe that - I'm a male with high in range Oestradiol for a bloke, and get aches in my hips and lower back. Only seemed to notice the pains come on when I started on Levothyroxine, to the stage I could barely walk at times. Between starting on Liothyronine as well and taking a decent multi vitamin, the pain has considerably lessened but is still present, niggling at me.

It is socomplicated with hypothyroid;just dont know exactly which 'deficiency' it is!i hav tested ferritin and vit d ,both on low end;esp vit d.But the 'ironic' thing is that i recently started increasing vit d supplement and then got joint pains which i didnt have before(ladt time was a few wks after my misscarraige;it lasted 2/3wks).I do have a swelling on top of my foot too(tendon?)I suspected oestrogen cos it seems related to hormones(period and preg)but ferritin is a poss;as that gets depleted eith period etc.Another question i ask myself is if it has anytjhig to do with cutting out dairy products, which started about a month ago. Then again vit d deficiency is likely be worse now its winter...see ,so many possibilities!i have just started on glucosamine(but maybe 'barking up the wrong tree').Thanks all replies.

Hi Cloud sorry to here about your miscarriage I've had two the last was April last year I was advised from other on here to have my medication increased however my GP said it was fine, I'll never know if this was linked to what happened. Your lump on your foot does this cause you discomfort nod limited mobility? I have a lump on my wrist. Good luck

Sorry to hear ur miscarraiges too;u know myine was in April last yr too.we hav lot similarities;did ur joint pains start after preg then?My preg was unplanned and a 'bit' of a nightmare from the start;because of my untreated Hypo/Hashis it made me suffer more symptoms and then my baby's diagnosis of Turners when i was at 3mnths.I lost her at 5months,but she didnt have a chance at all really because of Hydrops...i havnt really got over it yet;as its left consequences for my health;incl get stressed easier;i sure it worsened the Hashis/hypo.Anyway,The swelling on foot doesnt hurt except if wear tighter shoes.i put arnica cream on it and ware an elasticated sport bandage on it (worked last time). The thing also is that my health deteriorates quite alot at time of period and esp after;i get heart symptoms..perhaps it is lack of t3 or ferritin(they both can cause these symptoms;weak heart and joints).I am thinking of self-med with cT3 but am worried about it being too much strain for my heart ;but then again,as we know, left untreated hypo can cause heart problems.

High oestrogen causes inflamation so if you have diagnosed low levels it is unlikely that that is the cause of your joint pains. as reallyfedup said, it is more likely that it is low T3 or if it is a sexhormone problem, low progesterone.

I dont hsve diagnosed low oestrogen;i just read that it can be a cause of joint pains(nr menopause).i use to use progesterone cream a while ago;maybe i will try that again. Its really lots of puzxle pieces!(i am taking iron and vit d,already).I also decided today to reintroduce 'dairy' ;goats milk...in case its a lack of calcium. Thanks all.x

npis.info/index.htm, is that better?

I have read that there is no evidence that glucosamine works according to research(which one should not always believe anyway). I have used curcumin which worked well for inflammation.
