What do i do for my worst hand tremor specially in my left hand.

Hello everybody, I am a hypothyroid patient n currently using Levothyroxine sodium 25microgm once daily, for the last 1 month. As of 06-11-2013, my TSH is 5.18 (ref. range: 0.465 - 4.68 mIU/L) and FT4 is 13.3 pmol/L which is normal. Previously I was actually diagnosed with hyperthyroid n successfully treated the disease. Its been a year or more with thyroid working normal and then again it show some disturbance that later diagnosed with hypothyroid. I must mention that this thyroid imperfection is very much connected with my stress and anxiety level. Im not taking anything for anxiety. Please suggest me what do i do for my hand tremor? This hand shivering is very much embarrassing n disturb me alot in my activities and confidence level. Secondly, As soon as i got serious tension my head become freeze n i feel pain on my back of neck and arms. Please suggest me the field of doctors to whom I should go for my hand tremor and anxiety. Shouldn't the doctor treating thyroid treat my above complains.

Hi The most common reason for a tremor is over range calcium. Worth having this checked as a simple blood test. If taking vit D even more likely. it can be thyroid This is Endo but a simple blood test will rule it out. Anxiety is also likely to be thyroid, check it first before seeing psyches.it is a bit like depression. You say the thyroid is normal. Have you had very recent blood tests for , T4 with the range?and Free T3?Have you had a print out from the GP with vital ranges? if GP unwilling or unable use Blue Horizon on line.

Most unusual for thyroid to suddenly "clear up".It sounds as if you are Hypo. or your sure you were hyper ( over range)? if so it may be autoimmune. T4 should be in top third of range , if on treatment. Free T3 should be near the top.You need the 3 tests done together.Synthetic treatment for thyroid, eg Levo, takes up to 6 weeks to reach maximum, that is a tiny dose. ask for a retest to include the Free T3, do not accept GP saying it is Ok, get the vital print out.

Thank you for responding. The last blood test results for FT4 and TSH are already mentioned above. FT4 as at 06-11-2013, is 13.3 (ref. range: 10.0 - 28.2 pmol/L). Yes, I got print outs of all my blood tests. I will definitely ask my endocrinologist to check my calcium n antibodies etc on my next visit on 31st December, 2013.

Hi 13.3 is much too low if on treatment, should be top third of range.. Also Free T3 most important. If FT3 is low in range, it causes many problems .It also slightly lowers the TSH which would be a good thing with your results.FT3 for most people best near the top of range, never over. Lots of us need treatment with T4 and T3 together. However, until your T4 is higher no way of knowing that, unless FT3 is really low. You are obviously on too little treatment.Are you sure the Endo did not test for the other things, usually do on first visit.If not due to go for a bit I would e mail Endo and ask for an earlier appointment With such a low T4, I( would expect you to definitely not feel right. You Lab is a high range ,more than often, therefore the test should reflect this.

Thank you Jackie for prompt response. (I was out of city so, sorry for disturbing you again after 2 days) After successful treatment of hyperthyroidism, when all my tests were giving normal figures, my endocrinologist has stopped my medicines as there was no need. I was getting complete check up of thyroids, calcium, vit D etc etc. on 3 months interval, regularly. And it was perfect as I was getting prints of all my tests (I made file of all my tests reports). But this time, in november, 2013, he just asked me for TSH T3, T4, RBC,Haemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, WBC, platelet. But I will ask him for calcium test on my next visit. (here, getting appointment is not easy). What you think should be prescribed to me for the low FT4. What doctor is doing, I told you. Now what i should do to get into my life, is my question. Im struggling very hard still finding difficult with all this tremor, anxiety, stress and permanent pains. Thank you in advance for your time.

Hi From what you say, I think it was/is autoimmune thyroid disease, the most common thing. However, it could be Graves, but I would certainly sus[ect this to be so. Graves, in a particular does swing. Hypo has to be treated when low and hyper when high. Frequent tests a must.It may also be the common Hashimoto, this does swing sometimes.Antibodies, especially when not on treatment would show autoimmune. thyroid. Treatment the same but just knows what you are dealing with.I would say that you need to increase the T3 very, very slowly, with 4-6 weekly tests. You also next time need a Free T3 test as you may well need a low dose of T3 with the T4. Only the three bloods will show that. The FT3 if high, ideal and should/does lower the TSH.I would say problably to double your tiny dose of T4 and have another test. I hope this helps.

If the GP will not do enough tests, use Blue Horizon. Main site, if no one to do venous blood, for free, then finger prick, not really as still a phial of blood, so good and DIY. Try and do first thing after 12 hours no thyroid meds. Quote TUK 10 for a discount £10.

Of course all the vitamins and minerals should be looked into, however, tremors and stress suggest adrenal function. There are tests that can be done in the u.k. addressing adrenal problems. Once this has been corrected and you are at an optimum dose of levothyroxine you should be fine.

It seems to me that your thyroid levels are still not right. In November your TSH was high and if your dose has not increased you are probably still under medicated. Nothing can be done without new thyroid tests, so ask GP to check Free T3, Free T4 and TSH and thyroid antibodies.

You may also be low in important vitamins/minerals so ask for tests for iron, Ferritin, Folate, Vit D, and B12. Then post everything here for comments. Hope you begin to find answers soon. x

Good advice from everyone. Your adrenals attempting to keep up with stress eat up so much magnesium that you are most likely deficient. Magnesium Glycinate or topical magnesium or both are called for and should be equal to your calcium which is high. Magnesium combats heart disease and all other muscle functions. I would try it asap.

Gaba is also a anti sress supplement which has to do with nerve function. A good one to try until you get your hormone sorted out.

Ok I will definitely try to maximize magnesium intake. Would you mind telling me about Gaba. Details of this anti stress supplement. I really want to make my head cool. Controlling my emotions has become tough for me. I was not like that. I was carefree person in past but now I feel high breathing or short of breath as soon as i find something very disturbing. Also pain in my back of neck area, shoulders, more speedy tremor, frozen mind etc. With all this, retrieving myself back is difficult. Thank you Heloise for your time.
