Requested a copy of my Medical notes, requested three years worth, could possible have settled for two, I was told it would cost me a minimum of £50.00 - Is it really that much to see two years of your own medical notes? Also if you ask for something to be removed - do they charge for that as well? Thank you everyone and I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Healthy New year x
Yes, but for that you will get all your records not just two years worth and I'm sorry but I don't know about removing things - only that it is very difficult to do so.

Thank you Moggie, I strongley feel that what has been written on my notes has effected the treatment I am not getting or proberly never will now . I am to poorly to bother with it, if things can't be removed x
Don't just take my word for it - try and see what happens. I didn't say they cant be removed just that it is hard to get things removed.
I have seen this time and time again about notes on records - especially any mention of depression - it seems to totally alter how you are treated.

At the NHS trust where I work there is a charge of £10 to cover admin costs then 10p per sheet of notes copied to a miximum of £50.00. You should also be offered someone clinical to go through the notes with you to explain any medical terminology you may not be familiar with.

I don't think I would be offered anything like that. If it costs 10p a sheet then why are they saying a minimum of £50.00 - as I have avoided the docs as much as I can, so it can't be more than 10 sheets at the most. Thanks Debs
I believe £50 is the maximum they can charge. I am not sure about having things removed. I think they might just make a statement in the records to say that you disagree with the comment. Be very specific about what you want i.e. many things are stored on computer these days and do not make it into the paper records it would seem. Even though I requested all notes including blood tests, computer records etc. I still did not get everything and had to ask again but I did get copies of somebody else's A&E attendances!
I did think £50 was a maximum but I would think it wouldn't be more that about 10 pages - I try to avoid the Doctors at all costs, even more so now. I think if they can't remove anything then it would be a waste of money, I could put that towards medication. Thank you for the Info
Hi I think it is a maximum of £50 as some patients have several volumes of notes so if yours aren't too big I shouldn't be too much.

You should be able to view on site foc. £10 max for ele tronic records & £50 max for electronic and manual records should be inclusive of photocopying and postage.
From another place on the web, I found this which reflects what I think is the case:
If you request access to your medical records and see something you disagree with, you are entitled to have something inserted stating that you refute it, for whatever reason. But for the purposes of audit trails etc, practically nothing gets 'deleted' from your medical records - only annotated or subsequently amended.
If they're extremely unhappy with what they see in the records, then each Trust should have a Data/Information Controller who has ultimate responsibility for the data the Trust holds - and they should be contacted.
Clearly, £50 is a maximum.
