Does anyone have any information that can lead me in the right direction on hypothyroidism and weight loss. I had all the symptoms of having an underactive thyroid since the birth of my son plus weight loss. However I had never heard of the thyroid and got sent for various other tests, all of which were inconclusive. Then this year I had a blood test and was told I had an underactive thyroid and everything made sense apart from the weight loss, which I can't seem to put on. My blood test is now at 2.8 since being on 25mg Levothyroxine so is now deemed fine but this was the level last year when my symptoms were worse and have begun to get worse again like difficulty eating and insomnia so I am starting to lose weight again.

Hypothyroidism and weight loss
No, I don't think your TSH is fine at 2.8 (within range) but for some of us we need a lower TSH. If you email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org and ask for a copy of the Pulse Online article by Dr Toft and read question 6 and discuss it with your GP. Some GP's are unaware they should treat the clinical symptoms too - and may not know them.
Most people complain of weight gain when hypothyroid but some people do lose weight.

Your TSH still looks pretty high. I went through a period of losing weight when hypothyroid due to loss of appetite. Hope this helps x
