Hi comments on blood results please been suffering joint and muscle pain and hair loss

Dr said test Normal no action

TSH 0.01. Range 0.35- 5.00

T4. 17.700. Range 9.0 - 20.0

Folate. 13.700. Range 2.7 - 34.0

Ferritin 87.00 range 20- 275

I am taking 100 levo should also say I had a TT 18 mths ago

A Free T3 result would give a clearer picture of what is happening as you may not be converting properly, which would account for the low TSH and quite high T4. It would be helpful to go to your doctor and ask for this, explaining that you have read TT patients may not convert well and would like to be sure you are doing so. It would explain your symptoms, so point those out too. I have had TT and went through the same situation but my doctor did a T3 test and it was below the reference range, so I paid to see an endo to get T3 meds. Hope this helps. x

I asked for T3test but wasn t done like most thyroid patients I feel I m fighting a losing battle with Dr I feel I may have a convertion problem but he doesn't t seem to understand this because my TSH is suppressed he wants to drop my thyroxine I have refused

I was concerned my ferritin might be low.I haven t actually seen my Dr face to face for last3 times..my surgery operate a system where you ring for an appointment and Dr rings you back it is difficult talking about symptoms with Dr not face to face.

I feel his attitude is you are on thyroxine so every thing is fine!

Under dig deeper you get down to digestive health - there's a link between leaky gut and autoimmune disease.

Back in Feb I had very similar results - low TSH, relatively high T4. I had thyrotoxic symptoms.

OPn testing my T3 was fine. My reverse T3 was fine etc. I was on 100mcg thyroxine.

I also had the aches and pains.

Your TSH is very low and while they say to aim for this your T4 looks high.

I hate test results because we're all different and you do need to check your T3 and see if it's a conversion problem (could be blocked receptors). You could also have a liver issue since that's the main place T4 is converted to active T3.

Other things could be adrenal problems since cortisol is needed for proper thyroid function and the symptoms overlap when something's not working well.

Off T4...I was still in range for T4 and TSH...according to the BTF this relates to non-thyroidal illness or presence of another problem even though I'm TPO Ab positive. See table on this page from the BTF

I'm now on 25mcg and coming of thyroxine all together because my problems are linked to digestion and it's this that's been triggering my autoimmune conditions.

Take the trigger away the conditions resolve.

The important thing is probably to try and figure out if your thyroid is off balance in isolation (unlikely) or whether there are untreated, underlying issues that are contributing symptoms...

It is interesting I have suffered irritable bowel syndrome since I was 10yrs old my thyroid problem came to light after the birth of my son in 1989over 23 yrs I developed a multinodular goitre eventually having aTT in 2012.therfore rely totally on thyroxine and don t want to drop below 100 perhaps I need T3.this has never been an option offered to me by my GP.

Like every thing to do with the thyroid it is complicated

It may well be worth trying to address the IBS. My uneducated guess is this may well be a contributor in developing thyroid problems.

I also went for the T3 option but hit such a hard brick wall with the medical profession here I went digging for alternatives. For me coming off thyroid medication all together over time because I sorted out my digestive system was a really unexpected outcome.

The cells of the digestive tract turn over - on average - every days so it is possible to heal the tract if you remove irritants and deal with whatever's causing the primary problem.

I have been looking at going gluten free find the substitutes so sweet.I stopped dairy years ago and switched to soya did find some improvement.Have since learned soya is bad for thyroid so now lactose free products.

Since being on thyroxine and my age 60 I have noticed my weight is creeping up frustrating as I have always been slim.I now follow 5-2diet and this seems to suit me.

What I hate are all other symptoms joint and muscle pain hair loss pins and needles , indigestion etc

Still I know I,m feeling a lot better than others on this site.
