My doctor told me yesterday that he's never met an oap with chronic fatigue, so it must go away on its own. This coming from the doctor who told me that in his experience he's never met a hypo who has gone back to normal. If I was weak I'd probably accept what he has said but I will prove him wrong! I can feel good again surely? He won't send me to a specialist as there is nothing they will be able to do for me (in his opinion).
I am 30yrs old, hypothyroid on 125mcg levo. I have three children 5 and under and am currently going to bed by 10pm and struggling to get out of bed now at 8.20am. I have zero enthusiasm for anything and if left to my own devices would be asleep most of the day. On anti depressants because they'll fix everything (insert eye roll here). Fluoxetine 20mg.
What drugs should I be looking for online? Do I continue to take the levo? Completely new to this but desperate to help myself, only wish I could afford to go private!

When did you last have a blood test? Supposed to be annual at least. If you have recent results, post here with reference ranges (most important) and people will comment. If you have not had one recently, ask for one and if possible for it to be free T3, free T4 and TSH. They may insist on TSH only, which is fairly useless as a diagnostic tool and then you may have to get them done privately. I will pm you name of a doc you could see.
Silly man. Well, since chronic fatigue wasn't invented until the 1970s and didn't get big until the 80s, he would only just be beginning to see the first wave of CFS OAPs diagnosed in their 20s and 30s - that's if they haven't all given up and either topped themselves or gone private - they certainly wouldn't go back to a GP with an attitude like that. I've never seen an aardvark, but it doesn't mean they don't exist.
Get another GP, if you can. I also think that you are entitled to a second opinion from a specialist.
I think you anti-Ds, being made of Fluoride, will counteract the levo. Perahos you can get off theme and get referred for counselling instead - that way the GP still gets his points, I think. Plus it's nice to have someone else to moan to and psychs are often much better at diagnosing thyroid problems than GPs. They'll probably tell you you aren't depressed which gives more ammo to use on the GP.
Perhaps a good place to start would be to buy a book or two and really learn about your condition. I personally like Stop the Thyroid Madness book and Your Thyroid And How to Keep it Healthy by Dr Barry Durrant Peatfield. More info on books here: thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/tuk_sh...
I treat myself now with the supervision of a doctor who helps me along, but I would only recommend that as a last resort. Far better to work with a doc who can prescribe for you and monitor you if possible. But knowledge is power ...
Possibly your doctor's patients have all realised what a total *&^& he is by the time they get to retirement age and have changed doctors. Idiot.
I second GirlScouts recommendation of those books. I have them both and they are excellent.
Do you have your last set of test results? If not, ask for a print out of them. You are entitled to them and very often they are far from normal. When you have them, come back here and post them. As well as thyroid tests, ask for Vit B12, Vit D, iron, folate and ferritin to be tested. All those can cause problems with thyroid meds and many can cause fatigue if they are low.
Dr Peatfield, who wrote Your Thyroid And How To Keep It Healthy runs clinics around the country and is well worth seeing in my opinion. He's certainly helped me big time.
Also check out Dr Myhill for info on all issues relating to CFS/thyroid and adrenal gland problems/hormones etc.. She publishes plenty of info on the site that has helped inform us and helped when we deal with my GPs. I have CFS/Hypothyroidism/leaky gut/IBS/multiple food intolerances and her site covers the lot.
I had same problem as you. Doctors seem to like under-prescribing. I did some research and ordered Lugol's (potassium iodide), take 4 drops daily in my orange juice, and take Tyrosine from the health food store. I feel much better. Good luck.
Zubakuki, by the time you reach old age, your cfs is overtaken by other identical conditions which they call by another name. In your 40s you're perimenopausal, in your 50s you're menopausal and after that you're just old, so no more cfs!
