Hi, I was in bed last night and I inadvertently touched my right ankle in bed to find a hard, bony lump near to my ankle. When I woke up this morning I wanted to check up on it and there's now a dent in my skin between where the lump is and my ankle joint. There's no lump on the other foot.
It isn't tender when I touch it and there are no outward signs that suggest a lump at all, only when I touch it, but it has been causing fizzy feelings in my foot/leg, other muscles in my foot have started to spasm and even as I type there's a constant fizzy feeling.
Not reading too much into it being cancer as it's something I'm likely to jump into assuming, but I'm wondering if this could be contributing to me being unable to put on weight, being constipated and tired. And the only thing from my recent blood test that flagged up as anything being a serious problem is a high red blood count.
I know that having an autoimmune illness predisposes me to developing other things, but I'm not sure.
It's too late for me to call my GP for an appointment today, but I might call them for an evening slot if they can. Usually the GP calls me and advises me what to do so I'll try this later.
I don't know what's caused it and I hope it's nothing I should be worrying about. I just don't want to go to my doctor and have them think I'm a hypochondriac.
Unfortunately I was unable to see my GP today despite calling through to them. I was booked in for an emergency appointment to have him look into it but he didn't call back.
One suggestion, just that, but because something similar happens to me. It's because I lie on my side with the heel of one foot pressing into the calf of the other leg, if you see what I mean. Get checked to be certain, though. I could be well wide of the mark.

You could be right about it being a sleeping position as my boyfriend gives me foot massages in bed - if he isn't too tired - and whenever he massages my right foot I get the fizzy feelings through my foot into my leg. Possible circulation problem, I guess, as I also get very bad Raynaud's during the winter. Also a recent blood test showed I had a high red blood count and the one before showed a high plasma viscosity. Probably nothing to worry about and are unrelated but I do read up about their connections with things and it gets my mind going.

Quite likely to just be a bone spur especially as in foot.try not to worry over it but get it checked out if you must for peace of mind. Bone spur extremely common and not really any problem. Highly, highly, unlikely to be a cancer there.

Thanks Cupi. I did think of it as a bone spur too, funnily enough, when I was waiting for a call back from my GP (which never happened). Can a bone spur cause sensory problems? How is it treated?

Hi jo I have a large spur on top spine it pokes our a little at side of neck so it's pretty long! I was told it no problem but can cause pain etc if it hits and runs along the nerve paths.there are a lot of those in spine/neck but not sure about foot,I guess same may apply.

Hiya Cupi, thanks for your reply. Yes, I spoke to my doctor and she has confirmed it as a bone spur - unusual place to get it however.
where in relation to your ankle is this lump? A bone spur is highly likely. Or if it's at the back of your ankle it could be a swollen Achilles tendon. That would be softer to the touch than a bone spur. Either could produce 'fizziness'.

Yes, the GP has said it's a bone spur but why I have it is beyond me. She says it's due to bone turnover. The lump is to the side of my foot but below my ankle.
I'm wondering if the hypothyroidism has caused the lump to appear?

I wonder what 'bone turnover' means? As, I suspect, do you. I don't think it's sinister. Just one of those things that turns up with wear and tear. I was recently most put out to be told that the lump on the side of my left big toe is a bunion. A bunion! Only old people get those. Oh, wait ...

Haha, yes. I was put out to be told by the doctor it could be wear and tear (which she was getting at). One of those things at 28 I guess, eh?
