Yes - this is an option for treating hyperthyroidism. It's called 'block and replace'.
The carbimazol increase to 40 is to stop (block) your thyroid hormone production and the levothyroxine is to replace it with the synthetic version of the hormone.
It can work better for some hyperthyroid patients because it is easier to control.
I was only given carbimazol and my levels went crazy. I wasn't offered block and replace and didn't know about it back then. If I had I would have preferred giving that a go instead of Radio Active Iodine treatment.
