Imaginary hand pressing on neck again!

...so I had this for a couple of weeks recently and then it went for a week or so and came back this morn!

Its just like someone has their hand pressing on the soft part of my neck which emanates to the top of my chest...its really unpleasant.

I've reduced the Nax to 2 and the nutri thryroid to 1 a day with a good basal and really never feeling the cold and / or having that many thyroid symtoms.....am not on any thyroid medication.

I've checked out the list of symptoms for globus hystericus and it doesnt seem to be that.

Anyone else?!?

It sounds like you have a goitre. Please check your neck for any swelling.

I was diagnosed with Hashimotos after my Dr noticed I had a goitre.

You can find out more here: nhs.uk/Conditions/Goitre/Pa...

I constantly felt like someone was pushing on my wind pipe and I couldn't breath properly but after being put on medication it disappeared and has been fine ever since.

If it continues please see your doctor.

Thanks.

It doesnt look swollen at all it just feels like theres pressure ...no visible swelling whatsoever.

I know my histamine levels are often high and just found these symptoms on the net (of high histamine):

Pruritus (itching especially of the skin, eyes, ears, and nose)

Urticaria (hives) (sometimes diagnosed as “idiopathic urticaria”)

Tissue swelling (angioedema) especially of facial and oral tissues and sometimes the throat, the latter causing the feeling of “throat tightening”

Hypotension (drop in blood pressure)

Tachycardia (increased pulse rate, “heart racing”)

Symptoms resembling an anxiety or panic attack

Chest pain

Nasal congestion and runny nose

Conjunctivitis (irritated, watery, reddened eyes)

Some types of headaches that differ from those of migraine

Fatigue, confusion, irritability

Very occasionally loss of consciousness usually lasting for only one or two seconds

Digestive tract upset, especially heartburn, “indigestion”, and reflux

I regularly get 8 of these and sometimes the rest!

'Food' for thought!?!?

I started having similar feeling that something is press against my windpipe, tender to touch and hurt when I swallow. I had this for almost one month. My Endocinology doctor said that I have two nodules on my thyroid. I will take biopsy. I'm nervous because it will be my first time having biopsy. I'm glad the medicine helped to reduce the swelling. Which medicine did you take that it help to disappear the swelling?

Did you also feel like you couldn't get a full breath in?

Interested to hear what happens with this post. I get this sensation and blockage of breathing and swallowing. I just had US results and they are adamant that there is not swelling although several nodules.

Anyone got any ideas for us??

Hi I had that horrible feeling of someone strangling me but it has disappeared since being on medication, my thyroid was enlarged. It is really irritating, I was choking on food when swallowing and even my own saliva. I had a scan but thankfully there was no goitre or nodules and the swelling has now gone down. I hope you get to the bottom of it soon. best wishes xx

I get this sometimes too. It feels like someone is pressing on my windpipe and I have to constantly manoever my head to release the strangling sensation. I have no lumps or bumpsl I used to have it all the time up until they got my Levo dosage right, then it went away. Its now back again and guess what,.... Ive been told my levo dosage needs to go up. Sounds to me like its the thyroid causing the problem. I shall be interested to see where this goes.

I had been experiencing similar symptoms for a couple of weeks and way getting crazy over it. Having found no help from my doctor I then found a couple of websites online suggesting very simple neck exercises to do many times throughout the day and specifically for globus sufferers. I started to do them and over a week the symptoms started to ease and has got better and better to the point that its only 5% there. The most important part is to make sure your shoulders are always down and pushed back as far as you can. No hunched shoulders or it won't work. Then carefully, with mouth closed, ease your neck back as far as it can go, all the time looking up to the ceiling. You should be able to feel yourself stretching your neck. It may make you cough a little. Then roll your head a little to left and right and centre. It probably won't work the first go. you have to do it many times a day over a week or so.

The following steps also helped me a lot.

1. Drink plenty of cool fluids. Around two litres (four pints) per day is advisable.

2. Stretch the back of your throat by yawning. Do this as often as you can.

3. Avoid throat clearing as this habit causes more tightness to occur in your throat, does not get

rid of the lump sensation, and aggravates the edges of the vocal cords. If you feel that you

have some mucus to clear from your throat, do not clear your throat, instead have a drink to

wash it away or do a silent huff (a sharp exhalation with the mouth open) and a strong gulp to

clear it.

4. Look carefully at your lifestyle to see how you can introduce some more relaxation in to it, just

for you to unwind. Take up a relaxing hobby such as yoga, walking, meditation, or tai chi.

Allocate a specific time just for you to read, listen to music, or do something creative. Be

prepared to delegate work and/or responsibility to others. Look at symptoms and see when

they become worse - is there a pattern of tension relating to a certain time of day and/or

situation that you could address?

5. Try these specific exercises to stretch and relax the muscles of the head, neck, and

shoulders:

• Sit tall and let your shoulders and arms hang comfortably.

• Do not let your head poke forwards or loll backwards.

• Lift your shoulders to your ears - hold them to the count of six then drop them, repeat

three times.

• Look over your left shoulder, hold it, then look over your right shoulder. Repeat this

sequence three times.

• Tilt your head down to your left shoulder, hold it for the count of three, then tilt it to the

right shoulder. Repeat this sequence three times.

• Drop your head down onto your chest and very slowly and gently roll your head up to one

shoulder, open your mouth as you roll it round to the other shoulder, and slowly back

down onto your chest. Hold this position for a few seconds, then slowly raise your head.

Repeat this exercise going round in the other direction.

• Screw up your face and hands as tightly as you can - hold it for six seconds, then relax.

Doing these exercises to slow quiet music is helpful.

Also, I have shifted to a completely alkaline diet. I feel I have recovered up to a great extent already and hope it will go away completely.

Thank you very much for these tips. It helped very much with my problem.
